ok like 4 months ago i had to replace the turbo due to bad seals, i got a used 1 from heavy throttle. after i installed it the car would still smoke a little, i gave it time to let some of the oil the turbo prolly spewed in the engine to burn off, after a while tho the car would still smoke speratically. sometimes id come to a light and a ****load of smoke (bluissh white smelled liike oil) would pour out of the exhuast. i got it to do it less by when i let off the gas when i was driving id get back on slowly and easily and reving the engine a lil while slowing down for a light or whathaveyou. Either way about two weeks ago i finally put a 91 tach in my car. when i put it in i realized that i was never really shifting that high so, i ran it up to about 6800 a few times, afterwards the car was smoking like a bastard constantly. i got it over to my moms house, shut it down for prolly an hour or so, then came back and the car was dead. starter finished. i finally got another starter on there today and when i started the car up there was no smoke and i was pretty psyched, i thought the car had fixed itself, which it had done once before. but then after letting it warm up , smoke started billowing out again. white with blue tint and smelling of burnt oil. turn the car off for a few hours. started it up to take it to my appt. wasnt smoking until car warmed up then pouring smoke again.after reading a ****load of posts about this before todays events,i figured it was the valve seals and ordered them from heavy throttle. i havent had them put in yet and i dont really want to have that work done and find out its not theproblem. im going to check the compression tomorrow and find out how that is. DOES ANY1 HAVE ANY CLUE WHATS GOING ON.

sorry for the long post

Take out your plugs and take a picture of the business end. Post them up. If they are nasty it's likely you have a blown headgasket.

hey... djsonic... where did you get the starter for your SR?? how much did you paid for it?? DOES IT COME with the cone shaped nose when u purchased it??? I bought my SR20 with the transmission, and other parts, the starter came in a separate box and does not have the cone nose that goes into the trany and suppose to gear up with the fly wheel.... what to do?

my car does a similar thing, originally did the smoke only come after u drove it kinda hard? and would it have to idle for like 30 seconds b4 the smoke would come? thats what mine is doing but i was thinking turbo related

i got the starter for 100$ from phase 2 , i dunno about any cone shaped thing, i know that nothing was sticking out of the starter itself, i guess the gear stuck out when power was supplied if thats what ur asking.

quiksilvia: yes thats pretty much exactly what was happening to me. 90% of the time it was when i stopped at a light. sometimes if i was accelerating normally then let off the gas , and got back on, not hard but not soft either, it would also do it. so when i would let off the gas id be really easy gettin back on the thottle and it wouldnt do it as often, also i used 15x50 and almost a quart of liucas, i dont think its the turbo b/c i replaced my witha used unit from ht, and when my turbo did go back the smoke that would pour out of the exhuast was darker i believe. i still havent gotten around to doing a compression check, but definatley tomorow, have u done one to yours?

How much oil is in the engine? Maybe oil is backing up into the turbo because your turbo drain line is plugged, or there is too much oil in the engine and the oil cannot drain out fast enough. When it gets backed up, there is oil coming in at about 50-60psi, if that oil has no where to go, it will come out the seals. If you are burning oil, it is coming from your valve guides, turbo, piston rings, or maybe the headgasket. You can eliminate some of those with a leak down and a compression test.

Check the plugs! My DSM ran fine but smoked when you initally accelorated due to the piston-rings not sealing the oil anymore.
