Hello all. Awhile back i posted that i was in the process of going through an oil consumption test. Well after 5 visits to the dealer, they determined that i'm only using 3/4 of a qt every 1000 miles. I can see that because i'm putting in around 1 1/2 qt every 1500 miles. Well the dealership stated that they will not replace the engine. I'm still having the problem of white smoke out of the exhaust on startups. It does it when the car has been sitting for more than 3 hrs. I also smell burned oil after starting. The service manager stated that yeah those cars do that sometimes when it's cold. But this have been going on almost everyday since last September. I'm thinking of going to a different dealership, but i'm past 60k. i have an extended warranty but not with Infiniti. What can i possibly do in this situation....? Thank you for your responses in advanced.

Go to a different dealership. Sometimes, when a dealership does not have a lot of work to do, they might be willing to help you out more than one that has cars lined up. Nonetheless, your extended warranty is good at any dealership. It almost sounds like you may have a bad head gasket, but one would need to properly diagnose this situation to be sure.Good luck

Bad head gaskets?

Not in 18 years of V8 history has the Q engine had bad head gaskets unless abused by driver and allowed to overheat and warp heads/block.

I'm assumming you are not adding coolant in quanity every month?

Owners present the engine to dealers with what ever amount of oil they desire to be measured...............up to owners...........relatively easy to remove an extra 1/2 quart.

Now I'm not condonning gross fraud just because someone wants a new engine but any engine using 0.9 quarts per thousand is just as bad as one using 1.1 quarts...............measurements are often subjective.

Q- so you are saying that there is a part out there that is mass produced that has never failed??? Please tell me what part this is, I am very curious. ANY manufactured part or item is subject to fail at some point, regardless of how it is used. And please do not make any assumptions about ANYTHING, you will make an *** out of yourself most of the time.I also was not saying that anybody will remove some oil, or whatever for that matter, to make something look different than what it really is!Cheers

i've had the same issue with my FX45.

when i don't drive the car for several days (which is frequent) its hard to start and when it finally does it smokes and is very rough at idle. i normally have the car towed to dealer when this occurs.

apparently its a known issue and they clean the injectors, put fresh oil in, and put you on the oil consumption test. Reference TSB ITB01029 or amended TSB IT02-049).

i'm out of roadside assistance warranty so i've paid $75 each time i had her towed.

the car is again going through an oil consumption test. it failed once and on the 2nd test they had to restart the test: they stated that their seal had been tampered with. the odd thing is, the car was at their dealer less than 1000k miles for service so the only folks that touch the car is them. it takes 3+ months to put 1000k miles on her since we never drive the gas hog.

i feel like the dealer is jerking me around with their oil consumption test. the issue surrounds letting it sit in the cold and not running the motor for a few days. i don't want to pay 75 each time to prove that.

i paid 52k for a gas guzzling car that won't start.

I guess it depends on the dealership because they didn't put a seal on my car. But after the last test they did rush me out the dealership after saying that nothing will be done. I will have another test done from another dealership before the factory warranty on the drivetrain expires at 70k.
