Ok here's the problem. My redtop smokes after sitting for a couple of minutes. I can drive down the highway and it seems to clear up and then when I stop again it starts to smoke. I'm pretty sure its my valve stem seals since I didnt do those when I had the head rebuilt (mechanic didnt mention them plus I forgot and by time I remembered, it was too late.) The reason I had the head rebuilt was because I screwed up and bent the valves and broke two rocker arms(aboout a year ago). It only smokes when pulling vacuum which leads me to belive it is the seals. I checked the hotpipe of my turbo but there is no oil and it doesnt have any shaft play. My question is that if my seals go bad on the turbo wouldnt that also make my car have oil in the hotpipe or not necessarily? I think my time chain needs to tightened or the tensioner is screwed because I hear a little bit of a knock in the head. Maybe my hydraulic lash adjuster's need to be bled? The noise doesnt change between rpms meaning it doesnt get louder just faster. Right now I have Greddy MHG and Greddy valve springs. Also my coolant doesnt have oil in it or coolant in oil so I dont know.

not always, the side of turbo that gets the most abuse is always the exaust side. the seal on the turbine shaft could have collapsed enough to allow a little oil to slip through. question though does it smoke worse when you are in boost ??

No it smokes more when I'm Idling or pulling vacuum. There was also oil only on the #1 spark plug. The rest were fine. I get to find out today, I'll take pics. Eliterit give me a call.

exact same problem my friend is having, smokes when you let it idle for more than 2-3mins but as soon as you drive some it stops smoking. let us know what you find out. also what color is the smoke? white, blue, or black? im pretty sure its my friends headgasket thats ****ed up cause his was white and i think he had like 90 compression on one cylinder, but i dont remember exactly, but there wasnt any noticeable amount of coolant in the oil. so i dunno, let us know what you find out.

Haven't had this problem with the SR but with my KA it was the valve stem seals. It was bad. I would go through the drive through and whenever I left there was a huge cloud of smoke...embarassing.

my ka used to do exactly this,, but as weird as it may sound, the problem just stopped out of nowhere. sometimes it'll come back though when i drive old betsy pretty hard at a drift event.

HA HA! thats what mine was doing also the drive through thing it is VERY embarrasing. Well looks like the head was okay and it turns out it was my piston rings on 1 and 3. I'll post pics when I get my camera. You could see where the oil was coming in on the piston walls, not much but it was there, hence the smoking sporadically. Now I'm trying to decide what pistons to go with aftermarket or stock. I guess right now my goal is anywhere from 350-400 horsepower. What do you guys think? Oh yeah the smoke was kinda bluish. I'll be back later with pics of the build and such. I've already done the head once so it makes sense that it wasnt the head. I'm going to get the Enjuku head swap package but I'm gonna wait to order so I can see what other stuff I need.
