Happy New Year everyone !

Well, after having my accident, having noise issues with the Versa, yada yada yada .. I have a new glitch.

This really frustruates me because I really like the V ! But I can't handle noise .. at all .. and now the acceleration issue is adding fuel to the fire.

To recap - I had been hit in the front passenger corner in August. After a few fights with Nissan, they fixed it. But not to my entire satisfaction. They forgot a bolt here, didn't fix little things etc ..

So I went to a new dealer. I got the car back after a day of so called repairs and on a night of a huge snowstorm. Noticed they repaired the car alright, but half-a$$ed.

The dash makes tons of noise .. almost like the windshield is coming through. Again, my car was bought May 2008. So, they put foam everywhere between the window and the dash (wonderful for resale, no?). The dash STILL makes noise.

I have also noticed that the dash leans in slightly on the passenger side - it looks like the dash is now below the place where it is supposed to be so the dash is lop-sided.

But the acceleration is when I turn a corner - especially when I turn a corner going uphill. The car revs up past 2000 rpms (or about 40 kms from what I can gather) and then goes back down again! Then it revs back up.

I tried doing full stops, turning, etc .. and it does it almost on every corner now. Sometimes I find she lags too when taking off from a stop but I have taken into account that this could be the CVT making the stop go a little rougher.

Does anyone else with CVT have this turning issue? Even if I try to remain at a low speed, or push it a little harder to test it, the result is the same.

Essentially I am asking because I am calling a brand new Nissan dealer beside my work to have them look at the other dealer mess-ups. Thought I would bring up the turning issue if it seemed like a problem and not something related to the CVT.

I've got a few miles on mine and don't notice anything unusual under the same circumstances. Of course, I don't push mine and keep it at 2000 rpm or less as much as I can until I'm above 60mph. I never let it get above 3000 rpm even when going uphill, so I'd say revving to 4000 rpm is definitely not a common CVT issue.

Thanks for the feedback, but just to clear things up, I don't push my car .. I only said I pushed it to "test it".

I am a very reserved driver - especially since a motorcycle accident in 2006 has me a lot more guarded on the road and with an ankle and foot injury for life.

I was simply inquiring if anyone had this issue .. I have NEVER pushed her up to 4000 rpm on a hill.

And I am talking a simple little hill (actually, an overpass) so that I can get over to the highway exit.

She stalls at 2000 rpm .. regardless and lowers rpm .. so the car seems to stall on the hill ever so slightly.

Hope that is a little clearer

It sounds to me like you my have 2 issues with your V.

first it sounds like after your accident that the passenger side front drive axle may be binding during cornering which could lead to problem #2, which may be a cpu problem trying to compensate for the added resistance of the drive axle binding.

the only way to know for sure is to take it to a Nissan Dealer you trust and let them diagnose to see if this is the case.

Ahhhh .. note taken ! I will be calling the new dealer tomorrow. Hopefully they will be able to fix all that ails my poor V ..

I just really like my car .. and hate having to keep going back to the dealer for fix-ups.

Thanks

Sorry, Junipers, I really wasn't accusing you of pushing it. Your comment that "The car revs up past 2000 rpms (or about 40 kms from what I can gather) and then goes back down again!" just made me want to let you know that my CVT never gets above 4000 rpm by my doing or by itself. Just trying to give you the sample data you wanted, and I guess I got confused by your "40 kms" mention. I agree that the accident might be the cause of what does sound like anomalous behavior.

No worries

It would just be nice to drive the car without encountering glitches

Tonight I just enjoyed my iPod on the way home and ignored the noise .. and have to remember to call Nissan tomorrow (hectic day today didn't allow for a service call lol)

transmission fluid ? I can try and check tomorrow - too late now and we are in for a huge snowstorm starting in the a.m.

I am curious as to the reasoning behind your post though .. .. and I just had her 6 month servicing done in December even though I have had her since May 2008.

(did i say HER ? LOL ... )

Well, at least I hope you refer to her as a girl rather than a guy because your riding her all the time!!! LMaO! . Lol, but yeah, basically your fluid will slosh around and the pickup tube is sucking nothing but air instead of fluid. Or could possibly that your low on transmission fluid. Your my next door neighbor eh!! Im in Newfoundland and your in Quebec!

LOL

I always referred to my motorcycle as a "she" .. so I guess the V just assumed the same reference LOL.

I will try to get a look at the fluid when the weather lets up .. have no clue what is wrong (with the acceleration issue) but it did it again today - and NOT going up a hill .. simply turning a corner after being stopped at a red light. Go figure

LOL .. considering we got about 15 to 20 cms of snow - and freezing rain mixed in with that .. I haven't opened the hood of my car LOL !!! Been too damn busy removing snow, shovelling, removing snow, ... yada yada yada

I did, however, call the new Nissan dealer today and outlined ALL the "bibittes" (bugs) with my car. I have an appointment at 8:00 a.m. on Jan 14 to get this straightened out.

Once I can get the hood open I PROMISE to let you know what I see .. right now I see a dirty white versa covered with ice and snow .. sniff sniff ..

p.s. - have to get the paint chips touched up on my hood too .. should I get Nissan to do that or do it myself in the spring ? Never had a new car before .. and not too sure I should touch it up myself LOL

Depends on how the chips got there in the first place. I know I do alot of Highway travelling and I get flies and rock chips on my hood like you wouldnt believe!!! But I cover my hood in Vaselne before I take a trip on the highway, it will save you from the bugs splattered everywhere and some minor rock chips. I think since maybe its your own fault since the chips are from normal abuse, you should touch it up yourself when the spring hits. Let me know how it goes darling!!

Hello Junipers!

I live in Quebec too. I have a versa SL with CVT and never experienced your problem with mine. Yet. LOL I just got the fule pump replaced at 8000 km on the clock. The engine would not start.

I hope they'll find out the problem on your car. I like my car too and was pretty embarassed to see it go on the tow truck last week. New car on tow truck and neighbors laughing. What a nice day.

As for the rock chips I got a few this summer... Since my car is black I went to Canadian Tire and bought a can of tremclad paint (not the spray) and filled the little chips with a needle. Once dry I did a slight compound over the area. It really did a good job.

The touch-up paint form the dealer does a very bad job. Good luck!

Car chips - result of to and from commute to work on the highways

My neighbours have had a good laugh too seeing me come home with dinky little hyundais while my new Versa is in the shop .. since May, I have been without my V three times LOL !!! I hope my issue isn't the fuel pump .. had to do that on my Focus .. along with the transmission and everything else lol

Yeah, I am pretty sure I know what your problem is, that what it sounds like to me anyway. We will see when the time comes.
