Car slows down after about 20 minutes

My 99 Pathfinder seems to slow down..as in if i fllor it instead of downshifting it just stays in the gear its in and takes for ever to get up in the RPM's....It only happens after about 20 minutes of Off roading or hard driving....what is it?
