so ive been having this problem for about 3 days now. I will be accelerating on the highway to get up to high way speeds and the car will just shut off very abruptly. No weird idle or anything. It feels the same way as if the governor trips in. So when it does cut off, the speedometer shuts off, revs drop, oil pressure drops, etc. and radio stays on. I pull over to the side and after waiting about one minute, the car starts up and runs again. It happened about 3 or 4 times on the way home.

So my first thought was the battery since it has been corroding the terminals for the past month. So i changed that and car ran good on tuesday. Today is wednesday and the same stuff happened again. Died on the highway twice. So im now looking for a solution to this frustratin problem. Some people say fuel filter, or fuel pump is goin bad, or distributor needs new cap and rotor, or maf wire might be loose. What do yall think? Need some help asap as this is my daily driver.

You can also check the coil pack and it's wiring. My car did that when I first installed my MSD 6A on my KA24DE. After I soldered all the connections it stopped doing that. I'd check all the stuff you checked also.

checked it all and came up with nothing. drove the car about 40 miles tonite and nothing happened. im gonna check the spark from the coil wire next time it occurs but there's no evidence for me to pinpoint the issue.

Check your mafs. My other car, an altima, would do that and it turned out to be the mafs. You would be just driving along and *poof* your car magically shuts off. Just my two cents

did your altima throw a code tho? any check engine light? i just noticed today that if i keep the revs under 2000, it wont do it. anything after that is fair game tho. It went out around 2300 and it also went out around 3300 (78-79 mph). so now i couldnt reach school today so the car is definitely goin in to the mechanic full time. he thinks it may be the coolant temp sensor. ive heard responses about the oxygen sensor, loose ecu board, knock sensor, maf, coil/transistor. i now know for sure tho that it isnt the coil/transistor. After it occurred, i check the coil and it was sparking. so one eliminated. any other suggestions?

bring it to a shop and let them put it on the ossiliscope better known as the scope. this will let them see your ignition operating voltages throughout rpm ranges. when it does this, are you just getting warmed up or is the car well warmed up as you are entering the highway?

Well i first want to say that I GREATLY APPRECIATE all of the posts concerning my problem. its amazing to see how helpful a group of car owners that are infatuated with the nissan product can help a guy out in rough times. Now to the rest of the post which will probably end off this thread. So on wednesday my electric guy checked all the wires underneath the dash and all the fuses and relays in the engine bay. Nothing came back conclusive except that the fuel pump fuse and egi pump relay were not receiving power. Everything else in the engine bay fuse box was receiving power.

So we figured we get some other relays and try it on friday (today). So he comes back today and we try out the relays and still no go. He then proceeds to check again underneath the dash and he starts to test the wires from the alarm. Turns out the alarm was receiving power from the ecu but the alarm wasnt transferring it to the dash. ( For general knowledge, the dash lights receive their info from the ecu. My alarm plays the middle man b/w the dash and ecu. Another thing is that my alarm is kinda special since it cuts the fuel, the starter, and the ignition.) Anyways, so we ended up using another piece of wire to bypass the alarm. We tried that and bam! dash lights turning on and everything back to normal. We start the car and bam! the beautiful sound of my KA once more.

Moral of the story is double check all your alarm wires. I really dont see how one wire could have caused all this trouble but sometimes thats how it is. Apparantly the one bad wire caused all this mess and it seems that the cause of it going bad is still unknown. Good news is that everything is back to normal. If anyone needs any help with anything similar to this, dont hesistate to email me at [email protected]

Thanks again for the help
