hmmm... sorta the same thing is happening on an engine my friend and I just installed in his 93 Camery.. Maybe it's one of these things:
1. Air in the fuel system. Sometimes air can get into the fuel system and cause a bunch of problems - Ive seen this happen for lots of reasons, sometimes as simple as running out of gas. I'm not sure if the KA has it or not, but sometimes engines have a little nipple on/near the fuel rail that allows you to purge air from the fuel system as you have the pump on or cranking... Although then again a lot of newer cars have automatic systems that do this-- I dont know which the KA has cause I havnt had the need to check...
2. When is the last time the car had a good tune up? Think about changing your plugs/wires/cap/rotor/fuel filter/etc... you probably need it anyways. This simple tuneup sometimes solves some of the most confusing problems.
3. Your EGR valve might be stuck, or gunked up with crap. Check that bugger out.
4. Check all your vaccum hoses and routings... make sure you have no cracked or disconnected lines.
5. Is the check engine light on? Find out if the ECU is throwing any codes (like maybe O2 sensor that is making the ECU pull some timing?)
6. Is your air filter clogged?
7. Bad gas-- make sure youve got some good gas in there... bad gas can make your car run really crappy too.
Thats all I can think of off the top of my head... that should get you started anyways. Good luck man!
