Hello again! While i was coming home from work my Z shut off on its own while driving. Managed to tow it back home and did a ECU diagnostic which came up with 53, 13, 21 and 33. Im gonna replace the coolant temp sensor when i fix the plug since its all corroded but, what has me worried is the code 21. I have the old style PTU so my guess its that it went bad since those are prone to failure. Im not really worried about the the other two codes since the O2 sensors are brand new ( Bosch Replacements ). Any ideas on anything else i should check? Thanks in advance!

PS
The car as of this moment wont start.

Clean all connections. If the CTS is corroded, Very positive the rest of the connectors are the same. When cleaning use a small file and/or tiny screw driver.

Get the new style PTU, that may be the issue, but you still should clean the connectors.

Most likely a dead PTU.

Looks like your O2 sensors are dead as well. Bosch cheapos don't last long. If they're still good, then it's a problem with the harness or the connectors.

Guess ill take a look at the connectors and see whats up. Is Nissan still doing the PTU recall? If so, what number can i call? And i lastly, i dont think the O2 sensors are bad ( they have been in the car less than a month and also, they are OEM direct replacements so no cheapos also... ) My guess is that they got covered with gas and crap after all the times i tried to start the car... Also, the car turns on when it feels like it. I checked for power to the coilpacks and there was no spark while i was cranking it. I cranked it again and after a second or so of cranking sparks came out and the car turned on so at this point im positive its the PTU! I will keep checking and see if i find anything else.

Just go to the dealer, give them your VIN number, and they'll give you a new style PTU and a subharness.

Yupp a bad PTU will give you all kinds of problems like the ones you have. And I'm with you on the Bosch O2 sensors. It was said on TT.net that Bosch was the OEM manufacturer. The OEM o2 sensors were licensed by Bosch and made for Nissan. Universal Bosch ones would be another story though

Just an update: I still havent managed to get the recall done. Something about the car being imported from the US to where i live ( Puerto Rico ). They gave me a number to call but that was a waste of time since all they do is transfer my call around until they hang up on me. I also called the 1800 number and still no luck as they just transfer my call over here and the cycle repeats again -___- I will keep trying and update on the situation.

What's your VIN? I'll call my local dealer. You can pay me shipping if they'll give it to me.

You can buy this, but you will have to splice it into your harness (which isn't really that hard):

Really appreciate the help guys but i cant buy stuff from eBay since im having problems with Paypal.:frown:
I heard from a friend that theres a guys that has a Z that he's parting out so i guess ill take a look in case i cant get the PTU from the dealer. Im real handy with a soldering iron so splicing the harness shouldn't be a problem. Ill update if anything comes up.

If you have any junkyard in near you there (or in Puerto Rico at all?) then you could try finding one from either a 300zx or from a 240sx, maxima, or infinit j30 I think all used the same kind of PTU, If you find one, make sure to take the pigtails too so you can splice them in. On the PTU itself it says what each terminal/wire is so that you can identify which wire goes were

Just an update. After tons of calls and work arounds i finally got my new replacement ptu... problem is, nissan gave me an old style PTU instead of the new style one... does the new style ptu replacement only applies in USA? Because if it is, its really dissapointing...

Are you sure you got an old style? The old is on the left here, and the new is on the right: http://tech.aus300zx.com/pturepair/Image8.jpg

If it is the old, that sucks man, I would push on them hard to fix it. Also, you could try to find someone parting out their car that has the new style.

I think I have an extra new style ptu with the connections somewhere in the garage... I'll look around.

Im positive its an old style PTU. Weird thing is, Nissan told me its an updated model so i don't know what to think really... This is really frustrating...

Put it on and give it a shot. Even though it may be the old style, it should work better than the one you currently have on the car.

Well i installed the new PTU in the car and it fired up right away. I also relocated the PTU under the nose panel so it will last a lil bit longer. Guess i will start looking for a new style ptu in the mean time. But hey, car works now! Atleast im not on foot now for the time being.
