Car should Start, But I doesn't

ok I got my new engine installed, everything's hooked up, but If I put the key in the ignition, it just turns freely, it's just no spring to it, and if I turn it to run/start it doesn't turn over I know for a fact the engine runs and works properly, but my ignition doesn't spring back, and if you hook up a battery and dont have a key in the ignition, all of the accessories work. This is why I was wondering if I can switch the column out with one fom a car thats not super hicas (impossible to find a junk one out here) but I thought maybe there's something easier that could be changed in order to fix this problem. Like maybe the ignition switch?? I don't know... that's why I'm asking.

BTW, I bought this car with this problem, it wasn't running when I bought it so I put in the new motor (head on the old one was destroyed) and hooked everything up, timed it right, but this ignition (other than stuff like belts and minor stuff like that) is my last problem before it runs.Please Help me!!

ok, Update/bump

My mom's bf did some work putting the igniton back together, now it has the spring to it and it clicks into place wioth the key, but if you turn it to run/start, it still doesn't turn the engine over, It's timed right and everything, but I think there's still something with the ignition, is there something that I should check, maybe someone has a Troubleshooting Ideam or anything that could help? I want this running by sunday if possible. 1992 with Super Hicas, if that makes a difference. I mith've said that earleir

do a run down test w atest lite see if 12v is pass out of the switch and then 2 the starter.240s also have 2 starter wires charge & crank

ok, I was working on it today, the key and tumbler is working perfect, but when I turn it to run it doesn't turn the engine over and we can turn it over by jumping the solenoid with 2 wires and a switch. I'm thinking there is a fuse gone but I have no clue where. So what could cause it to not turn over using the ignition? any help is awesome

Ok, here's another problem we JUST ran into. I now have intermitant (sp?) spark. Some of the plugs will only fire sometimes, and if they do, it is VERY weak. What could be causing this to happen? Does anyone have any suggestions for either of my last 2 posts (including this one)?

Ok, I know.. this is like a Triple post but I really need to bump this, for the second time , because I am going back to my mom's on tuesday night and I have 5 days to work on it, so I was hoping it would be running by saturday, so what possible things could cause the problems I explained earlier? ANY thought or opinion is greatly appreciated, thanks.
