I've been looking at vehicles for the past couple of weeks, and I LOVE the interior of the SL (the Bose speakers don't hurt!), and the cargo space, but after reading all of the complaints about the CVT and the airbag recall, I'm a little worried.

The Rogue SL I test drove was a 2014. 2014 was one of the worst years for the Rogue in terms of consumer complaints, so I've ruled that year out.

The 2015-2016s seem to have fared marginally better, but I can see that people here, and on other forums, are still having problems. As much as I love "features," I'd also like a reliable vehicle that isn't going to die in the middle of an intersection, or have all kinds of vibrations!

I know the 2017s haven't been out that long — but does anyone know if Nissan has made ANY effort to correct these problems? The initial reviews mention a quieter ride overall, but most of the issues seem to crop up at around 20K miles, or more.

I'm still tempted by the styling. I need a large vehicle due to playing a large musical instrument (my previous car was a Toyota Sienna that lasted 12 years, until the repairs got too expensive). Right now the other "finalists" I'm considering are:

Toyota RAV4 (decent price and ultra reliable, but boring, with few upgrades like a power liftgate, heated seats, etc. Pretty awful sound system)
Kia Sorento (surprisingly comfortable to drive, but I need to test a newer model with a better display)

I welcome any input!

I have had my 2016 Rogue SL with Premium Package a year now and have not had a single issue. Not sure where you are getting your research but forums are only a small portion and not enough to be statistically correct. Check Consumer Reports as they query a far greater number of owners.

uh, my 2015 SL Premium has Zero issues.
Take what you read online with a grain of salt. Sure im sure some people had issues but people only go online to forums to complain about issues they are having. no one posts "My car is great!"...

So for every online post you see with someone having an issue, there are 100,000+ other rogue owners with no issues.

I've owned the 2014 Rogue and now the 2017 Rogue and the problems in the 2014 Rogue are resolved in the 2017. :poke:

- Panoramic moonroof noises: the 14 always had creaking from the moonroof whenever going over a bump or making sudden/sharp turns. some people in this forum have had it resolved by bringing the car back to the dealership and having parts of the moonroof replaced or tightened or lubed. I was unlucky and my noises always came back...maybe after the 4th time it was finally resolved however it would randomly come back for short moments.

- Engine pickup and suspension: supposedly they made the suspension better and the noise dampening better in the 17 and I agree the ride is better and quieter or maybe its in my head and its a brand new car. The acceleration feels better as well.

- The front camera is lowered on the 17 to make room for the new Front Collision sensor. I have a harder time seeing stuff out the front camera because the camera is picking up more dirt from the road. I didn't have this problem as often with the 14.

- Blind spot warning is better in the 17, the 14 didn't pick up blind spots as good.

- The addition of frontal collision warning and Adaptive cruise control to the 17 is very useful. The front collision warning has already helped me at least once a week in preventing a potential crash as I'm guilty with texting or looking around when I drive.

- The trunk light is moved to the center above the trunk rather than the old position on the right side of trunk almost at ground level. Having the light on the right side didn't help at all as the light was either too weak to light up the trunk or something was always blocking it whenever I move stuff around in the trunk.

- remote start finally added to the car in the 17 has been really helpful this past winter.

these are all the stuff I can think of off the top of my head. Hope it helps! :mike

We purchased a 2014 (see tag line below) in Aug, 2014 and have had no issues with it. This is one of the better "road cars" for long trips due to the zero gravity seats that were new to the Rogue in 2014.

Work done to date:
I have had the driver's seat frame replaced (popping) - free under warranty.
Pano roof does creak a bit - I live with it for now.
That's it!

Read the reviews for the 2014-2016 as the only thing Nissan changed on the 2017's was body styling.
