so i did a burnout in my z and after that the car started acting up.The car would shake at around 2,000rpm mostly in 2nd and 3rd gear and the shaking kinda go away at higher rpm and its fine at highspeed or 5th gear. I took it to Midas to have it checked out and the guy there told me that I might need to change my LSD and transmission fluids so I did it. While changing my fluids, I checked the fluids to see if theres any junk pieces in the fluid to make sure I didnt blew the gear box or messed up the clutches in the LSD, so there were none, I guess thats good. I also have the engine mount checked out, it was still fresh. After doing all that, my car is still shaking. I dont think its the injectors or ignition coils because the car still pulls really strong. So Im just curious to find out what it is because this is really irritating and pissing me off. Could it be the driveshaft or is it engine related problem?? If you guys could help me identify this problem, I would really appreciate it. Thank You in advance!!!

Is it just RPM related or is it moreso based on speed? If it's speed related, then something is off balance. If it's RPM related, and does it regardless of if it's in gear or not, then it's engine related. If it's only at certain RPM's while under load, then something is messed up in the final drive gear or differential. If it's only in certain gears, then something is wrong that's related to those particular gears, not the transmission/differential/driveshaft.

Do the symptoms change at different load strengths? I.e. half throttle, full throttle?

Lesson learned, don't burn out to show off for your friends in a 20 year old car.

the thing about it is at idle and reving, the car is perfectly fine but when driving, only in 3rd gear and if stay at 2000rpm in 3rd gear, the car will start shaking, the shaking is reducing if I go higher than 2000rpm. The car is smooth in 5th gear regardless of the rpm or speed. That shaking doesnt seem to have any effect against performance wise. Its just pissing me off because I dont know whats wrong it with. Could it be because the tires are unbalanced??

You could try going to a shop and getting the tires balanced. If that's the problem then you'll end up coming out pretty cheap.

Hello-

I am having the same problem. This issue has seemed to get progressively worse over the last few months.

I have a 1993 Nissan 300zx with a few issues. This is my dream car and has served me well for many years until a few months ago.

I live in Wisconsin and plan to move to AZ, and I want to take this car. However, the thing that most worries me is a strong vibration through the whole car while I am driving down the road.

I have asked my mechanic and he kind of brushes me off like it’s no big deal. I think my car scares him; my car repairs always seem to be more complicated and complex then he first thinks.

The car only shakes when it is moving. The vibration gets worse just before the car s*** into the next higher gear. I have noticed that the shiatsu massage (the car shake/vibration) really kicks in when I keep the car at about 50 mph.

If I accelerate slowly the vibration is worse. If I floor it the vibration is much less noticeable. I have to tell you that while driving down the road I have taken the car out of gear and stepped on the gas, the car runs smooth and vibration of any kind disappears. Put the car back in gear and give it gas, the vibration is back. I have noticed that any speed over 50 mph the vibration is very minimum, however if I accelerate slowly to get to any speed over 50 mph the car shakes (goes into shiatsu mode). If I floor it, once I reach my cruising speed it is smooth as silk, as long as I am going faster than 50 mph.

I think the culprit might be the drive shaft, or the balancer shaft. If it is one of these things what is wrong with the car and will it cost me a small fortune to fix?

How is this fixed?

Thanks guys!

Sounds to me like the driveshaft center carrier bearing. Easy to check.

1. Jack car up and make sure it's stable on the jack stands, as you're going to be under it.
2. grab the driveshaft near the carrier bearing and try to shake it.

If it moves at all, it's bad and needs to be replaced. Instead of replacing the bearing, for about double the price, you can eliminate the bearing altogether by swapping to a one piece driveshaft. I highly reccomend shaftmasters. Just recieved my shaft from them for my 5 speed swap, and the quality is absolutely top-notch.

BTW, Thanks for searching! :dblthumb:

Ace-

yep it is the carrier bearing! I called Mitch from epracing and he is sending me a new one-piece drive shaft today.

Thanks!

Good stuff, man!

Also just noticed you have an NX2000. Something tells me you have a thing for T-tops? I always liked the NX2000. Neat little car.
