Hey fellow coupe owners!

I bought my car about 4 months ago. I bought it with about 9600 miles on it. Since I've had it, I've noticed that the car shakes more and more as the speed increases. You can even tell it shakes slightly at idle. Everytime I take it to the dealer they tell me it's probably the tire balance is off. I do have custom 18' wheels on it but the same problem was happening when I had the factory wheels in there also. Any suggestions on what could be causing this besides the tire balance being off since I've had the tires balanced already.

for starters welcome to nico,

as for the vibration.. you say it vibrates even at idle, as in not moving, if thats true take it to dealer and have them check the harmonic balancer

Check that, and check your wheel alignment - you might not be flush to the ground which is causing the car to not be steady on the road.

You speed shaking problem and idle shaking problem are not related. Do what these guys said, it will help you through this.

Both LBC and adidas are right, do what LBC said for the moving vibs and for idling, take it to get looked at! Gluck!

ive had the same problem, i went to get my alignment done and the shaking stopped, so its one of the 3, so get your wheel balanced checked and alignment and it should go away,

Sounds like 2 seperate issues to me. First: have your tires balanced with a machine that measures radial force variation and have them check rim runout. Nissan dealers are required to have this machine but is not always checked. Even though your tires may be in balance does not mean they are not the issue. A stiff spot in the tire will cause a very similar "shimmy". The 04-05 maximas are notorious for this condition. Second: I am going to have to disagree with the harmonic balancer theory. It is possible but from my experience, vibrations at idle on nissans are more likely due to an engine/transmission mounting issue. Have your mechanic check your engine mounts and check for any signs of anything damaged or misaligned.
