Hey guys just wondering if someone could help me. i drive a 90 240sx. tokico hp shocks, tein lowering springs and i just installed the energy suspension bushings. i did all the bushing in the front.. but the problem is the car shakes at 67 mph.

i aligned the car and its still a bit off. at about 65 mph the car runs pretty strong and stiff but when i speed up it shakes massively. like no joke it feels like a scene from the exorsist or something.

I don't know what it can be. i installed the bushings myself fromt eh tech pages and everything went smooth.

any help would be awsome thanks.

Have you checked to see if the wheels are bent or out of balance?

I used to have the same problem bt at 50 mph..check all of your axel bolts as well as your driveshaft bolts to see if any are loose.. if theres play between any bolts it creates vibrations throught the car causeing it to shake..

sounds like your car has a strong resonate frequency.

When did it start? has it always been like this since you've owned it?

i havent checked the balance on the tires yet but its on my to do list. i just recently changed the busings and that when the vibration started. idk ill check all the connections and bots. Do you have to tighten the bolts completly before or after you lower the car? i saw various answers to this online so what i did was i lifeted the LCA half way up with a jack and piece of wood to not damage it then i tightened it .

Any more ideas would be great guys. ill post up as soon as i check the balance and anyting loose. thanks

If your wheels don't solve the problem check your driveshaft. Its rare but the balancing weights can come off and cause a vibration.Nice work on the suspension it really improves the feel.

Where does the car shake and where do you feel the shake coming from. From the front of the car, or from the back? From the steering wheel, or in general?

1) WHEN YOU INSTALL NEW BUSHINGS, YES THE CAR HAS TO BE AT RIDE HEIGHT!!!! ON THE GROUND!!! Bolts in, nuts off. If anyone ever says anything else... SMACK THEM... REALLY HARD. I hate when people don't know, and they give wrong advice.. FFS... Bushings, whether OEM, or poly, have PRELOAD. They are supposed to have 0 preload at ground level. If the arms are tightened up while the car is in the air, and then set down.. guess what.. The bushings will experience preload, and your suspension will bind. Newer cars come with marked teeth that match up to teeth at the location where the arms will be mounted, holding the arm in place where they would normally if the car were on the ground. 240s don't have this luxury.

2) New bushings are harder.. therefore transfer more noise. So the car could have been shaking before too.. you just may not have noticed it, because the stock bushings were soft as butter... Not really, but sort of.How much of it is mental too? Perhaps you just weren't paying attention before?

3) Tie rods... When the car is sitting, turn the steering wheel side to side just a couple of centimeters and listen to see if you could hear a knocking. Soooo many 240 owners do not replace their tie rods..

aw dude man thats a grip of good info. Yeah i semi-tightend the bolts when the car was up. but since my car is low and i didnt have the necessary equipment at the time to raise the car on a ramp i lifted the lca's and then tightend. i hope i didnt screw anything up on them yet.

im gonna get the ramps untighten and then tighten to spec as soon as i can. the shaking is defenitely from the front end. it's shaking defenitely in the front and trasferring everything to my hands. it did shake before the swap but i know it wasn't enought to cause it to be this bad.

tie rods are defenitely on my list. Any recommendations? i heard Circuit sports complete tie rods are pretty ok? keep in mind its mainly for daily driving.

sweet thanks a lot man. ill keep all of u guys posted.

The same shaking happens on my car at 50-55mph, but if I speed up to 60 or higher it stops shaking. Would that mean that it's not a wheel balancing problem. Oh, and it just started doing this about 2 months ago.

Blown tension rod bushing or bad steering rack bushing.

^^ Thanks for the info! I'm gonna check it out this weekend.

I noticed your sig says washer fluid injection, how are you using it?

It's the snow performance meth kit. I just use walmart .99 cent washer fluid.

it also could be tire balance...i owned an old jeep cherokee with bad balance on the wheels and it would shake pretty violently at about 60mph but at 70mph the shaking was less noticeable. i never went faster than 75mph in that hunk of metal so i couldn't tell you if the shaking completely went away at higher speeds, but i can tell you the shaking was worse in a small range of speed.

after getting the tires balanced, it went away.
