Post

I have a 95 Nissan 240SX w/ a S13 SR20DET. My car shakes violently around 55-65 mph. The shaking stops around 70mph. The steering wheel is stright and steady. I thought there was something wrong with the wheel and tires, so I took off the stock 16's and put on some 18's from my other 240SX. My car is also lowered with Sprint Springs and KYB struts and shocks. The car continued to shake. Just yesterday I put new tires on my 18's and had them balanced and got an alignment. The car still shakes.

The engine doesn't shake too much when I turn it on or when I rev it up. When I'm doing 70mph I'll clutch it to see if it the engine is causing the trembling, but the shaking continues. I know I need a new transmission mount and probably new engine mounts, so I'm wondering if those 2 items are causing the problem.

Any suggestions or am I just sh*t out of luck. Thanks guys. JC

Put in neutral at the shaking speed?...to see if engine.................55-70 mph is the vibration frequency of mis balanced tires, wheels, or rotors....exact speed depends on loaded radius of the tire......................at 88 ft/sec a tire will rotate ~~ 13 times per second thus creating a vibration frequency of 13 Hz.

Warped rotors if really bad can create a vibration just as bent wheels or bad tires.

Even though you got an alignment, there still may be a worn suspension component such as control arm bushings and ball joints. Also check the condition of the steering rack bushings.

I'll check my suspension bushings and anything else that looks like it needs to be replaced. Thanks for your help. I'll let you know if I correct the problem. JC
