I currently have no alarm system on my car. I was just wondering how many of you that have had your car stolen actually had an alarm system. What are some good systems out there. Ive heard of ones that have a little alert you put on your keychain when your car has been opened. What are some ways we can reduce the risk of having our car stolen. Unfortunately when we modify our cars we are just giving theifs another reason to steal them.

I'm probably the only one that had this problem, but my doors won't lock properly if I use that button thing inside to lock them. I have to manually lock it with the key from the outside for it to actually work. Otherwise anyone could stroll along and open it. Not very good for security really.

This is spam isn't it? My bad...

Gotta say... the club sucks! Even locksmiths have this tool that disables the club lock... and what's to stop the thief from cutting up the steering wheel?

Anybody know how those brake/gas pedal locks are?

I bought an alarm for my car. I know 2 friends who had their stereos stolen without alarms, so when I put in my new stuff I added an alarm as well. It's probably more for peace of mind than anything else though.

I have a Viper 791XV, got it as a birthday gift from a guy here in the forums that goes by the name of "SR20DET" we probably did like 4 SR20DET swaps already so we know each other pretty well. It ran for about $250 dollars on ebay. It's got remote start, starter kill, satellite tracking if you want, door locks when armed, optional radar detection $35 bucks on ebay, 2 stage shock sensor, you get paged on the little remote that comes with the alarm (it even shows you what triggered the system such as shock, door opened, hood opened, etc), and so on. Great alarm if you ask me, it also as lots of addons. I installed it myself, took about 10 hours. I had basic stereo installation skills which was enough. If you guys plan to install it yourselves, just PM or contact me at [email protected], I'm also on MSN messenger with that e-mail from about 4 to 8 so if you guys need help, just ask. This was my second alarm installation by the way, the first one was on SR20DET's car.

Oh one more thing, I did the install myself because the average installation costs about $250 dollars and they will not install the auto start in cars with a manual transmission because of state law and mainly because people like to leave their cars in gear for some reason. I always leave it in neutral so it's fine for me, I had that feature working too which is kinda cool.

if ur worried bout ur car being stolen have a kill switch, if ur worried bout stuff being stolen out of ur car get an alarm. I was goin to go as far as shave my doors an get rid of the interior lock mechanism so the only way in is through the window or door poppers for the owner ;). But if ur worried bout ur whole car gettin stolen just hook up a kill switch its not hard.

I've had an alarm in every car I've owned. Not one has ever been stolen. Alarms are not hard to get by. But since most vehicle thefts are crimes of opportunity and most are not proffessional theives. Alarms can be a good deterrent to the random thefts. If someone really wants your car, they will get it. But it's a rare occurence that someone will want a very specific vehicle.

My car stalls and has some driveability problems, on the outside it looks like crap with the rust stains and looks dirty as all hell.

When they look thru the window...they'll see a bunch of wires where the stereo used to be....garbage on the front and rear seats, newspapers strewn all over, empty coffee cups, etc.

Thieves tend to avoid it....sometimes..I do too.

there's a lot of ways to implementing a kill switch, you can do a starter kill switch (they can still push start), Clutch kill switch (still push start), or your ignition system. I'd go with the Ignition setup. All you got to do is find the appropriate wires, splice and wire up a swith with a relay and bingo, ur done. Make sure you mount the switch in a inconspicuous location.

1) an alarm with indepedent power source would be good. Make sure you install it in the engine bay where it can't be yanked off easily

2) relocate the hood latch (so they can't pop your hood and cut the alarm power source)

3) fuel pump kill switch from relay

4) auto club that locks onto your clutch

5) remote tow hooks and hide them in your trunk, make sure you have the tools for quick assembly (this will at least fend off SOME tow trucks.)

That's why you get one with a pager like mine... then you can run out while he's still jacking your car and beat him over the head with a tire iron.

I've got a viper 650 and it works as well as my previous viper 800. The only diff between the two is that the 800 has more channels it can operate and longer range. If you're looking for alarms, might want to check out http://www.directed.com to see that most popular alarms are all made by dei like clifford, viper, etc. The viper 650 I've got is a good alarm, just the proximity sensor and the shock sensor need to be adjusted pretty well to work well without the false alarms. My exhaust was stolen at one point but the reason I found out it was getting stolen was because of my alarm. It's also got a built in kill switch. My alarm was installed by a buddy who works at Circuit City's road shop for 80 bucks so install wasn't too bad a cost either for me. There is also another one with the pager, I forget the model number for the viper with that...I know it starts with a "7" but the rest of the model number I forget. That one was expensive though I remember that much.

If you're paranoid about someone jacking your car, have multiple sirens. My buddy's car has some 5 sirens on it. One in the hatch, under the dash, one under the center console, on the firewall, and under the car at the rear and they were all switched up to the aftermarket (ie louder) sirens.

Additionally, I've got a S-AFC II which I've made removable via serial cable. So if I pull my S-AFC II, my car will start, but it'll die from no signal from the mafs. That's another option you guys have.

ya know what I did. The clutch switch that's pushed in by the rubber stopper when you depress the clutch, I popped that out. I just reach down and push the switch to start it. ghetto, yes I know, but very free and works rather well, none of my friends have been able to start it yet.
