The "I took the back seats out" types will love this post........

Anyway, I have the need to put a car seat in my 91 240 every now and then. I can't get the seat belt to lock without slamming on the brakes.

For those of you with kids or at least car seat experience, you know that you're supposed to pull the seat belt out the whole way thus employing an automatic lock...meaning the seat belt is always locked, not only when you slam on the brakes.

My question is whether or not this is normal for these vehicles or if my seat belts are mal-functioning.

I have had that same problem with my 89' when babysitting my homegirls daughter and I have never figured it out.

I have an idea wich is to just get an old "middle" seatbelt from the junk yard, just the lap belt, and mount that in the factory positions on the passenger side. It would work and the old cars that did not have auto lock just had manually adjustable seatbelts and rigid mounts that would do the same thing as the auto lock and be much safer in this case. I just dont know about the shoulder belt.

I had that same car seat problem with my '89 240SX, when my son was a baby. In mine, the shoulder belt on the passenger side felt that way unless you tugged on it , but the seat belt seemed to to be okay. I didn't feel comfortable with them either so I added a third belt (G-Force torso harness- popular if you autocross), and used it to secure the car seat to the seatback. This was a swivelling car seat so the frame could handle the extra belt. It felt much safer to me. I also bought a 2nd car seat for my wife's car so I didn't have to work to shuffle the seats. Torso harnesses run about $20 each, not expensive. Good luck

I have a 1993 240 sx and my rear belts lock when I pull them all the way out. They lock and you can hear the belt clicking and it winds in slack. My only problem is releasing the belt from the locking tab when I want to remove the seat. It locks in so tight that I have to push with all my weight (220 lbs) and have someone else push the button so I can remove the seat.
