ive got everything to run pretty well, for a 24e with 113k. there is however a lot of ticking from the valve cover area and when i turn the key off the car will still run for a couple seconds before it stops. anyone know what could be causing these things and if they could be related?

I beleive thats called dieseling. It means that for some reason, your car continues to run, even tho there is no spark. I beleive it is very bad for your engine. I would check your crank and ignition timing to make sure they line up good, only thing else I know to do is try better gas?

well i went to napa for sea foam to see if it would clean up the carbon thats supposed to cause dieseling and on my way home the car started revving then dropping. like it was shaking violently. i got a couple blocks from home and it wouldnt rev at all. like 200rpm-1000rpm was all it would do and then die. so i dont know where to start with that.

quick update with info:

i let the car sit where i left it for a couple hours and went back and it started fine. i was able to get it home but it was still surging badly if i got above 2500rpm. also it will start briefly and then die almost right away but if i keep pressing on and off the gas slightly it will stay running around 500rpm. any idea where to start? im completely stumped.

ok, i went this morning to see how it was and the problem is gone. the only thing i can think is the fuel pump is starting to go bad. does anyone have any other ideas? im thinking its not the iaa since the idle was rock steady before and after yesterday afternoon. also the engine shakes quite a bit at idle. could this be the valves or would that be the o2 sensor or something else.

side note: the valves still tick but the dieseling is a lot less after the seafoam. i may try a couple more bottles then get the oil changed again.
