car runs better cold then warm

why does my car fun better when its cold when i just start it up? when its warmed up it doesnt seem to have as much power

sorry i forgot to add that sometimes the exaust smells kindof weird, and that it sometimes shuts off at stop sighns.

need more info to help you. like when its warmed up does it sputter, misfire, smoke from tail pipe, etc. what does exhaust smell like (rottn eggs, sweet smell?)

the smell is really hard to describe. it smells like exhaust but just a little different, the weird thing was when i changed my oil it smelled like gas in my oil filter.

gas in the oil can mean a couple of things, none of which are good, besides the smell dose the oil look ok or is it thinner/ pale looking. is your check eng light on?done any major work lately? need more info.

no check engine light. no major work lately. i did just put an infiniti j30 LSD in but the gas smell in oil filter was long before that. i havnt checked the oil since i changed it i prolly should been way to busy. sorry for lack of info ill check the oil and get back to you. i baught it from someone who barely drove it and before that it was an old ladies, so the engine seems to be in pretty good shape 132000 miles on it, it hasnt been driven hard.

i just changed my oil like less then a month ago and i was almost out. the smell is like a dirty exhaust smell, just stinks. im gana put oil in it tomorrow and then ill see if the smell goes away.

finding gas or exhaust in the oil is caused by bad piston rings. did you notice if the oil was any thinner like it might have gas mixed in it?i belive for about $30 you can buy a compression gauge from most any auto store or borrow from autozone. id be concerned that ur rings are done. if you do the compression check you should expect no less then 110psi and that all cyls are within 10% of each other. that is at least the general rule. im sure somewhere there is engine specific #'s

Stock compression for a KA24DE should be around 175-180psi with no more than 10 psi difference between cylinders..........not exact #'s but close.

someone elso told me the same thing about the piston rings. the oil was thin and just smelled like gas and iv been getting crappy gas milage lately so i bet thats it. ill get the compression tester and chech it out. thanks

if iv been driving fast around town is when i notice it. if i just putt alonge and dont step on it at all i dont smell it.
