For the past month or two, my '92 240 has been running really badly, the problems are;-runs rich-black smoke-rough idle (150-400 rpm)-bogs-when accelerating it studders-loss of power-when i try starting it I have to have the gas peddle 1/2 way in or it doesn't start; if it doesn't start I have to wait like a1/2 hr to try again

I don't know what to do and Hawaii traffic is killing me.Any info would be extremely helpful, thanks.

Try giving everything a good spay down in the intake system... mass air flow sensor cleaner and throttle body cleaner.. then just wipe down with a rag reall good to get any gunk out of it... some other stuff u should do is play with the idle screw thats on the throttle.. its hard to get at, so u need to remove the intake pipe that goes to the throttle body to really get at it... witch is a good oppertunity to clean the throttle body too!! another thing that helps with rough idle is a gasoline additive called sea foam.. use 1 pint of it for each tank of gas it helps get out any carbon build up in injectors (or cylinders if the car is barely driven)... if you have any other questions just ask...

Well I was having the exact same problems on my 240vert. I know what your going through it took me weeks of diagnosing before I figured it out. The cause was a vacuum leak from the EGR Valve diaphragm. I changed the EGR Valve at a cost of $90 and now she runs purrrrfect. So I would say you have a vacuum leak somewheres. Spray all vac lines with windex or some other fluid and listen for a change in engine sound. Hope it helps. Keep us posted.

I'm not positive, but it sounds like you might have a bad injector. Alot of the stuff youre describing happened to me and it was a bad injector coil. Pull the plugs on each of your injectors one at a time, and if it runs the same when you pull one, that injector is probably bad, but if it runs worse when you pull a plug, that one is fine. Good luck, hope this helps?
