My car has a hesitation problem at a certain throttle posistion somewhere in the 5-15% throttle range all the time. This problem is worse when it's a cold start and isn't as bad once it warms up. I checked the cap and rotor and they apear fine so checked the timing. When I did check the timing I noticed that the light would flicker and it would get worse/better when I moved the clamp and wire coming off the distributor. The car bucks when I start driving at that throttle posistion under normal driving but i'll give it more gas and it doesn't buck but it feels like it doesn't have any power. The car never feels like it has any power either. I hope someone could help.

Thanks

the clamp and wire thing your talking about, is it a electrical connector? If so check the terminals and make sure they are fitting tight with the terminals in the distributor. you can bend the female terminals in the connector just a little to make it fit tighter.

Terminals in the distributor? I was talking about the timing light clamp that goes to the distributor wire not the two clamps that go to the terminals on the battery. That was my bad choice of words on that one, sorry.

oh it sounds like your wires are breaking down or you have fluid in the plug wells.

Hmm....are you talking about the spark side of the plug or the top where the wire goes? When I changed them I noticed that there was some oil on the spark side.

thats it you have a valve cover oring strip gasket leaking. Replace the strip as well as the outer valve cover gasket. Clean the holes, wires and it should be good.

Well that will be awesome if thats the case. Where can I get the gaskets at? I just moved to daytona so I dont have any idea where a nissan dealer is and i'm sure they would have to order it as well. Can I find this at autozone or something?

What about the flickering in the timing light? I think thats causing some problems.

the flickering may be due to the wires breaking down, if the wires are old replace them while your at it, take a look at your cap and rotor too, if you see arching/carbon deposits replace em.Heres some links to what you need, most of this stuff will be cheaper then buying over the counter as these dealers give nico members very good discounts.

I downloaded the manual for my car and It said to check the fuel pressure and check the blow by hose. Where is the blow by hose? I did a search and one came up but I looked under the intake manifold where he said and I couldn't feel anything and can't get my hand in anywhere either. There is a hose that comes out from the TB side of the intake manifold that goes to a T fitting that connect the hose coming off the valve cover and the hose coming out from the intake manifold to the intake pipe. I thought that might be it so I pinched it and the idle dropped so I assume that theres no leak there. I'm not sure if thats the righ hose anways?

it is the hose that goes from the PCV attached under your intake manifold to a box on the engine block or front cover.

Sounds like we have the same driveability problem, Chris. Keep this thread updated if you find out what it is and I'll do the same.

Well I just changed my plug wires to see if that was it and it feels much better now. The car kicked below 2k rpms and now it stopped but it did it a couple times later on. I think the wires were bad like you said. The timing feels off though. When I give it partial throttle it feels really good but when I floor it, it feels like it's pulling timing? When I was putting the wires on I noticed that the 3rd cylinder back plug wire didn't feel like it went on to the plug like the others. I started the car and then pulled that wire up about an inch or so to see if it ran any different and nothing changed. What can I do about that?

When you put new plug wires on, you should always use dielectric grease on the spark plugs and rotate the plug wire boots around so they are easy to get off. I'm not sure if you wrecked that one but just put it back on as best as you can. SOmetimes they don't always fit perfect.

If your engine sounds like it's pulling timing at WOT, you may have a knock sensor malfunction.. You may also have a fuel pump that is not getting enough voltage, causing a lean condition and thus timing retard by the ECU. These are cases that I have seen on the different boards while doing research about my issue, so it's not just a guess.

Do you have any codes?

My problem only happens at part-throttle and I have found a bad MAF reading.

I checked for codes and it said 55. I'm told that means nothing is wrong so I can't fix anything? How do I check to see if the pump is getting enough voltage and how would I check for a knock sensor issue?

OPen up your trunk and test the fuel pump harness for voltage. Knock sensor just look in the manual.
