My car ( 1993 240sx SE w/ stock KA24de) was having problems stuttering about 2 weeks ago, anyways the next day it pretty much dies. It dies every time I try and give it gas, but start and idles fine. I unplug the MAFS and it runs fine until 2500, just a little rich. I figure its the MAFS and its runn9ing in safe mode. Well anyway i check voltage on it and its getting 14.5 volts in and putting .37 volts out when plugged in. Anyways I buy a used MAFS and it got here today. When I put it all back in and plugged it up my car does the same thing. I figure its worth a shot to unplug the negative battery cable and maybe reset ECU, I know its needed with OBD2 but unsure with OBD1. Im wondering do you think I got a bad MAFS, or does the problem lie elsewhere? Does anyone have and S13 in the johnston, or wake county area that would let me borrow theres for a bit so I can try your MAFS? Im willing to pay a little.

Maybe you should check for codes.

I don't want to sound dumb, but how do I check for codes on OBD1. Is it the same where they just plug it up. My check engine light is not on though.

all or most S13s, the procedure is the same

*some of the codes will NOT trigger an engine light, although they are stored in the ECU until erased*

I beleive my MAFS is bad, but I was told to check my PCV. I looked through the FAQ's and it sound like a pain in the ***. I'll have access to a lift on tue., would it be easier to get to from underneath? My car is a stock 1993 w/ ka24de. Does anyone else think my PCV valve could be the prob.?

I've already tried to check for codes, but I couldnt get the light to turn on regardless which way the bolt was turned, or if the car key was on, it was running, or everything off.

You gotta wait young grasshopper, it takes a few seconds for the light to flash.

Read the FAQ carefully and follow directions.

PCV valve should be ok, unless you notice oil gunked on it.

i checked and I got code 12, therefore my MAFS is bad. Thanx for the info I didnt have the key turned completely on. If Im getting 14.5 volts into the mafs and only like .3-.4 at idle is it definatly the mafs?

Actually, I have a used one lying around from a 92/93 car I picked up at the junkyard.

I was in the process of polishing the sucker up and making it look real nice too.

Want it?

I can let it go for $50 + shipping, if you want I'll take a few pics later to show you what it looks like.

It would actually look a lot better if I finished polishing it. (very nice show piece for them peeps who like bling bling engine bays)
