ok... so my car has been sitting for a while. I am not sure how long, however, it is probably over 7 months. In that time period I drove it about 1 week.

So here is the problem. The car starts just fine, no issues there, however, once it starts it smells like fuel and it starts to smoke. It is about a gray/white smoke. I can't really tell. I do know that their is moister in the tail pipe.

It also runs terribly bad... no power at all and if I gun it, the amount of smoke that comes out is amazing! I could fill mys block rather quickly!

Things I have donee:1) I replaced all the injectors (main reason why it was not used for a while) I am having a terrible time installing an injector on the 2nd cylinder. I have had to take it out three times already and each time the small o-ring is torn. I have caked it with vaseline and it still tears. So that could still be the problem

2) I have done a compression test and the highest reading I get is 135 the smallest reading is 125. 125 being on the 2nd cylinder. Related to the injector issue?

I know the readings are terribly low, but could it be because it has been sitting for a while?

3) bought new spark plugs, wires and distributer cap

I am at a lost, If I have to change the rings, I am ok with that, I just want to make sure that is what the problem is before I dive in.

Thanks for your help and advice.

I was just curious, did you ever find a fix to this or the exact cause? My 91 is doing the same, except it is the fourth cylinder. Doesn't matter if the injector is plugged in or not, misses heavily, runs thru gas like nothing, and blows whitish/grey smoke. I thought maybe the injector I bought was faulty so I replaced it again. No difference. Any advice?

HI TK,

I had to take my car in to get it repaired. What it turned out to be for me was the hose that connects to the fuel rail. THe one in between the firewall and the fuel rail. It just happened to be torn. It is very dificult to detect if it is torn because it is well hidden back there.

One word of caution, if your issue was as bad as mine, be mindful that fuel might be making its way to the engine block thinning down your oil. My oil was like water... it was so thin i was risking blowing my engine in the process.

Yup, as a matter of fact I do have plenty of gas in the oil. I figured that was the cause of the smoke just a few days ago. I've just been waiting to change it till I could determine the actual cause. I was actually starting to think the main problem might be a bad fuel injector connector. I still hope it's not because I found out the engine compartment harness would be $500 - $700. Was yours a vacuum line? The one coming off the module (fuel pressure regulator, I think) at the end of the rail by the fire wall? Any and all details you can provide would be much appreciated. I really don't want to kill my car, and I've already spent more money on this than I could afford to. Thanks in advance.

yes, it was the vacume that went to the fuel pressure regulator. It had a slither that was very hard to detetect.
