My car is a 1996 240sx with 80k miles.

1. When the car is warming up the idle RPM is fine but when I tap on the gas say raise the rpm to 2k, the rpm rises and stays there for a second or two and then drops to normal. This only happens when the car is warming up. Is this normal?

2. When the car is idling.. the RPM is fine around 700 RPM but the car shakes a bit too much at that rpm. The shaking stops at 800 RPM. What would make the car shake alot at that RPM

3. When the AC is on the RPM is where its supposed to be. Around 1k RPM. But when I turn off the AC the rpm drops a bit too much until car shakes a bit then goes back to normal. Is this normal or am I supposed to have a smoother RPM drop?

Thank you for all your help!

that is pretty typical of nissans as they age. you can bandaid the problem by just raising the idle a hair.

#1 Yeah that seems pretty normal, I see that on almost all the nissans I work on.

#2 you should check your injector plugs. Mine were corroded and made it very difficult for my injector to pulse and caused my rough idle. Might be worth a shot on your end.

#3 your AC turns off and it'll go back to the way it was like without the AC. See problem #2, a smoother transistion? Probably if you had a smoother running motor.

you pull them off and look at the pins. if you see corrosion thats bad. you can spray them with electrical parts cleaner and then insert something to gently clean off corrosion. i use a piece of wiper blade metal thats roughed up with a sander.

Thank you for your reply guys.

I guess I will just use isopropyl alcohhol to clean it...

Is there a specific grit of sandpaper you use?

Thanx

nope, just a little on the coarse side. you want to rough up the "tool"(aka wiper blade) enough to where it is abrasive. nothing special.

aaa ic ic. Thank you for your help again. I wish I could take you out to lunch or something

Speaking of injectors... I tried to remove the fuel lines coming off the fuel rail but I had a hard time removing them... esp the one between 2nd and 3rd runner....

Do you have a tip on taking the fuel lines off?

Thanx!

i have a special tool that prys hoses off of tubes. it cost like $15 from the snap-on dealer that visits my shop. the other way that works is to grab it and try to twist it. once is spins you have broken its hold on the tube.
