Most likely your bearings in the transmission are shot and what happens when they go out is that the shafts are able to move around making it difficult to go into gear and/or make it pop out of gear as the shift linkage and forks are stationary. A simple rebuild kit that includes bearings and synchro rings can fix it but you need a professional with experience to do it. The problem with buying a used transmission is that sooner or later the same thing will happen to it too. When I bought my '90 model it had 96k miles on it and the transmission was making noise but it wasnt bad yet. I replaced it with a junkyard unit at about 110k miles and at about 140k the same thing was wrong with it too. I now have 180k on it and it is really difficult to get it into first and hard to shift as well. I am just waiting until I have the money for my engine rebuild to do it all at once
