Hey guys. I have a 93 240 with an 89 manual trans in it. It has a act heavy duty clutch kit and a fidanza flywheel if it matters. The transmission from what i'm told had around 70k on it when i bought it. It's probly around 80-90k now. Recently it started popping out of gear. When i take off normal from a light in first gear it pops out as soon as the clutch is about to engage. This happens maybe 3-4 times a day. Also when i down shift to 2nd(around 20mph) to go around a turn or to slow down for traffic it goes in and as soon as i release the clutch pedal it pops out and starts to grind. I then slam it back in 2nd and it works fine. This only happened once but when i shifted into 5th it popped out. From the few people I've asked they said a bad throw out bearing can be causing the popping out of gear. The tob is making a decent amout of noise. Any advice is welcomed.

Most likely there is a problem inside the transmission if it pops out of gear. A throw out bearing wont make it pop out of gear as it only affects clutch operation. If you are hearing alot of noise it may not be the throw out bearing but the mainshaft bearings. It is quite a common problem and will cause the car to pop out of gear and/or hard to shift. The easiest way to tell if it is the throwout bearing is to pay attention to when you hear the noise. If you put the car in neutral and release the clutch and hear the noise it is the bearings in the transmission. If you only hear the noise when you push in the pedal then it is the throwout bearing. Most likely your bearings in the transmission are shot and what happens when they go out is that the shafts are able to move around making it difficult to go into gear and/or make it pop out of gear as the shift linkage and forks are stationary. A simple rebuild kit that includes bearings and synchro rings can fix it but you need a professional with experience to do it. The problem with buying a used transmission is that sooner or later the same thing will happen to it too. When I bought my '90 model it had 96k miles on it and the transmission was making noise but it wasnt bad yet. I replaced it with a junkyard unit at about 110k miles and at about 140k the same thing was wrong with it too. I now have 180k on it and it is really difficult to get it into first and hard to shift as well. I am just waiting until I have the money for my engine rebuild to do it all at once

Thanks for the info. I'm gonna try and change the tob just to see what happens. I was thinking about getting a new motor anyways so I'll probly just wait till I can get ahold off anothe ka and transmission.
