I just got my sr20det redtop rebuild in my 95 S14 and the temp gauge goes all the way past H. I know that the temp sensor is not the right one( just order one for an 95 240sx last week). After I ordered it the next day the car temp gauge needle went past H and the car started shaking. By the time i got her home, the engine cutted itself off and I have not been able to start the car for 4 days now. What's going on!!!

That sounds like you completely overheated your motor. My friend has a redtop S13 in his S14 running the wrong sensor, but we have never had the coolant gauge go beyond H. What kind of setup do you ahve for you cooling?

compression test both the head and the coolant system, also look at the spark plugs.

I mean seriously how hard is it to stop driving and pull over when your over heats? Im willing to bet you had air in your line or leaking like crazy...I mean seriously... Even if its just a bad gauge I wouldnt drive my car until I had soem way to monitor the water temp.

the setup I have is a koyo radiator and a permacool electric fan. When I first got the redtop put in the car was running fine and the temp gauge needle never went past the H. But since I did the rebuild it stays up there. Just to let everyone know, I tried to get any air out of the engine plenty of time, actually before I drive it around, each time, I would check the amount of coolant in the radiator. I would let the car get to operating temp and check to see if the coolant was flowing. And it was, but once I put the radiator cap back on, the car would start getting hot. I took the plugs out to see if any coolant was in there, and there was none. There was traces of oil but not too much. This leads me to think that it might be the radiator cap.

I changed out the plugs, since the car has been sitting for almost a year before I rebuild the motor (due to blown head gasket). I also will change out the thermostat and install a cooling panel just to be extra safe. It is a shame that I did not do this before the overheating incident. My uncle who is a mechanic will look at the car this weekend. hopefully the car will start again. I am also have on order a water temp gauge and oil temp gauge.

make sure you have the heat control slide all the way to hot so air can bleed out of your heater core. and do you all know about the bleeder valve on ka and sr's? ik that doesnt have to do with it not starting but it is coolant related. and if you have a koyo and electric fans and you are overheating something is desperately wrong...

good luck...

sounds to me like the thermostat is stuck closed if its over heating with that setup. I still dont know why you drove it home with it running very hot.

I would do a compression test on it cause I would not be suprised if it did get as hot as you said tha the head didnt warp causing massive compression loss.

Home was only a couple of miles, so i figured the car would make it and I would shut the car off when I got home, let it cool down and find out what was wrong. I will also do a compression test as suggested this weekend.
