The fluid is rusty, it happens after X number of miles or X number of years. Flush it and change out the thermostat while you are at it.

When you go to fill it, jack the front of the car up buy about 5 degrees, so you don't trap air in the system

depending on how long u plan on keeping ur KA motor, it might also be a good idea to just swap out ur water pump. they tend to be old, fins in there get rusty and can detereirate. mine were pretty much non existent when i first bought my car and a new pump only costs like 60 bucks or so.

i would also do a coolant flush with some prestone coolant flush. this will help get more rust and crap out of ur engine and radiator cause if u just drain and then refill with new coolant, there will still be a lot of rust in there. instructions on how to do this are on the back of the prestone coolant flush.

it would behouve u to do a litle more then the bare minimum, these are old cars.

good luck

Next time pour some antifreeze in your radiator and not just water. In addition to flushing your cooling system and engine I would also inspect all my cooling system hose connections (where the hoses connect to the engine or radiator) for rust or deterioration. Water can wreak havoc on engines.

Good luck.

Ive had some overheating problems with my Cressida and heres my 2 cents

-NEVER USE THAT POWDER CRAP TO STOP A RADIATOR LEAK-Definitely flush your radiator or buy a new one(I had to)-If the little hole(seephile) on your water pump is leaking you need a new one unless it just looks old.(it doesnt take long to replace, and that one a Toyota so I'm sure itll be faster for you)

It sounds like you just got rust in your coolant system, but NEVER DISCOUNT THAT YOU COULD HAVE A CLOG OR LEAK AS WELL. Good luck, overheating is SUCK. Cheers.
