So I bought a 1989 240sx hatch about a month or so ago. Bought it for $1800, only thing wrong was throwout bearing was shot. So I replaced that, and it ran like a champ...... Until yesterday......

I went to fire up my car in the afternoon, and it just cranks. But nothing. Every so often, while cranking it, it would make kind of a "popping" sound, but nothing to hint that it would even remotely start.

So first thing I do is think it's fuel pump...... I never remember hearing it prime before I started car, but then I listened for it now, and it's not priming when ignition is switched to ON?

I start pulling out the fuel pump, and when I pull it out, it looks practically brand new Walboro 255 lph pump. I figured it wasn't installed too long ago, so nothing should be wrong with it?

I replaced the fuel filter, fuel pump relay, and fuse. Still a no go.

Know of anything that can just fail like that over night? Like not even 7 hours later?

Any suggestions on what to do? I have a multimeter, but don't know exactly what to put where and what to do (that's what she said...sorry lol). And I did search around, and with most people it being a bad fuel pump, there car had never started before, or the car would actually start, but would run like ****.

check to make sure your timing isnt way off (ignition and mechanical), and then check your coolant temp sensor.

warlboro pumps are loud during priming. also check that the pump fuse was switched to 15a because they tend to require more than the 10a a stock fuel pump uses.

does it have a better time cranking with the gas pedal to the floor?

Would the timing be thrown off overnight? It has driven really well ever since I bought it over a month or so ago.

And I remember checking yesterday, that it has a 10a fuse, but it wasn't blown? So would that still be a culprit?

And it seems to crank the same no matter how much the pedal is in or not.

i suggest swapping with the 15a and see what happens.

might have skipped a tooth during cranking. happened to a few buddies once or twice. it doesnt hurt to check timing since that can help narrow down your problem.

and like i said check your coolant temp sensor. might have taken a dump before you turned off the car, and perhaps its not getting enough fuel at startup.

Sorry to thread-hack, but nico STILL doesn't have pms. But...What difference would it make if the car started easier if you pump the accelerator? Because I have the same problem except it starts a lot easier when you pump the accelerator.
