Before I get into the problem, I've searched around and found problems starting my model car but nothing that seems to match the problem I have. I have a 2008 2.5S Altima, I bought it used about 4 months ago and this week I started running into this problem. Its happened about 5 times now, it seems to occur after a 15+ minute drive.

The issue is when I shut the my car off, the fuel and oil gauges don't seem to fall like they should. This causes none of the buttons in the car to work, ignition, door locks, etc. At first I didn't notice the problem until I was already out of the car and tried to lock it with the key-fob and realized the buttons weren't registering. I tried opening the door using the button on the handle but that didn't work either; I was forced to open the door manually with the key. Once I got back inside I realized that even though the car was off, both fuel and oil gauges were sitting where they had been when the car was on. However, as soon as I pressed down on the brake pedal, the gauges fell as expected and the car started responding properly to button presses.

I'm hoping this is something as simple as a brake switch, though at first inspection the switch didn't seem to be sticking or anything. Unfortunately the dealership I've got the car from has been giving me a hard time every time I bring it in and since this has been intermittent I'm assuming they won't even find a problem with it. The attached picture shows what the dash looks like when the car is turned off, note the right gauges.

Thanks in advance for any advice.
