After doing my SR swap (completed about 8 months ago) When I am just coasting along slowly at idle I hear a squeaky noise that seems to happen every time I hit the slightest bump. It sounds like the noise is comming from the engine compartment. Any Ideas?

The next noise is a common transmission noise. Some one once told me what it was but I forget so... It is a slight grinding noise that comes from the transmission. The only tmie I can hear it is when the clutch is out and the car is in nutral. It will go away if you push in the clutch. T/O Bearing only has about 9k miles on it. transmission has 104k on it.

the ec sound-could it be coming from a suspension component? or it could be a hose rubbing, or a lot of things, maby the motor mounts if its really bad, but look around for things that are touching

Mine sounds more like a winding noise in my transmission until I push in the clutch and then it goes away.Clutch doesnt slip or anything so I'm just going to save and buy a clutch kit and replace the pilot bearing(ive heard this might cause it also)

well when I did my swap last year I put in a brand new clutch/ throw out bearing/ Pilot bearing. The pilot is really just a bushing so I don't see why that ever needs replacement. But your right its more of a winding instead of a grinding.

I'll let you know if I figure out the first one.

I have that transmission noise too. I wonder if its the input shaft bearing or something like that. Of course, my car has never had the trans oil checked or changed, so maybe its a bearing running dry(ish). Why would the pilot bearing make any noise in that situation? When the clutch is engaged, the input shaft, pilot bearing, and crankshaft would be spinning as a unit. If anything, it should make more noise when you push the clutch in.

sounds like internal trans bearing noise by your description. since the noise is effected by clutch use you have isolated it to trans condition . so you need to figure out what is moving.

1.When the clutch is out the trans is spinning with the engine speed. Pilot bushing would be at the same speed so no noise would be heard from that.2. The T/O bearing is retracted from the pressure plate so it also is not turning , no noise would be heard from that.3. you are not moving and the noise is heard so that eliminates the drive shaft and further back components.4. since the trans is spinning and not in gear the only parts that have contact with non moving points would be internal bearings of the trans. ie input bearing, counter shaft bearings.

Thanks for your input NISTECH. I will have those looked at when they drop the trans for the installation of the clutch.

having those looked at will require disassembling your transmission. replacement of those bearings and any sync's or gears needed may end up costing your more then a used trans would . Depending on extend of parts needing replacement a reman or new trans might even end up being cheaper. There is a good amount of presswork involved in rebuilding one of those trans so labor will play a big factor in the rebuild of your existing trans.

All this is providing that your problem does in fact lie inside the trans. My advice is purely based on what is posted here and how I interpit it. so your description of the noise or condition may be different then I am interpeting it. That holds true with each individual who posts a reply to any concern on a car here.

I believe that nistech is right about the input shaft bearing. I had some one explain this noise to me a while back when I had my whole transmission apart to swap the KA bellhousing with the SR. Nistech is also right about having some one look at it. That would cost mucho denero$$$ Most likely it's not going to do anything bad besides make that noise.
