car jerking

i have a 95 240sx that is automatic. i have a problem when my car downshifts into a lower gear right when i hit about 20 mph. when im braking and i hit around 20 mph i hear like a clunking sound from the rear. i can also feel the car being jerked a little when this happens. any 1 know what this could be???

i think it might be your subframe bushings.

bushings??? dunno what that is. are they expensive to replace?

if you take it to a shop, i'm sure it would be expensive. Theres a lot of parts to take off to get your subframe out. More than likely your bushings arn't too shot and you can get subframe collars instead. They take up the slop in the subframe that the bushings dont. My bushings look fine and I still get that clunk you talk about. SPL parts has a nice set of collars for around $90 and they are fairly easy to install if you've worked on cars before.
