car insurance claim.. what to do.

so my car got broken into again. I still owe 2,600 on my car and the cost alone for the insurance guy to fix my dash and sunroof is over 2000. He tells me that the vehicle is only worth 2000. He told me also that they would give me 2000 and total my car. And i'm thinking just in parts alone my car with the swap is worth 10,000.

I'm looking for any suggestions fellas. This is rb related because my rb is installed in this car. OK KAMIN! By the way he snapped a few photos of my engine bay. Should i have let him do that?

Damn dude, I feel for ya. Getting your ish stolen is the worst! I think you have a leg to stand on though because that approximate value of just the SHELL of your car is worth more than $2000, especially in the western US. My advice would be to collect advertisements of similar cars (with KA's, mind you) for sale in the surrounding areas to prove that the price they command is much higher than he stated. If you can prove this, they may not total the car.

As for him taking pics of the engine bay...You might be OK if you once again, prove the value of the motor swap, the labor it took to get it installed, and the going price for similarly swapped vehicles on the market.

I really hope they don't total your ***** out though. Good luck and keep us posted...

You could try having your car appraised or collecting the reciepts from everthing you've done. Show that to the adjuster. If he says it doesn't mean anything he's lying. They only care about saving the company money. If they turn you down get a lawyer. I had a few adjuster try to bully me into a lower settlement. Just remember they would rather pay on a small claim like this than go to court.

I'm just going to assume you did not keep all of your receipts for your swap...

I have a large re-sealable manila folder just for this task. I asked my insurance agent what to do about just such an event. You will not get back the time that YOU put in wrenching, but if you paid somone and have a receipt for it, you should be able to justify your claim. If you bought stuff over Ebay or online, make sure to print out your receipt.

If you don't mind me asking, what insurance company are you with?

You may want to ask the insurance adjuster if you can purchase the vehicle after they total it. In many instances the insurance adjuster will give you the 2 grand and let you buy the vehicle for a couple hundred dollars. Be sure the insurance adjuster does not change the title to salvage. This advice was given to me by my wife who is a insurance adjuster. She has handled many claims just like yours.

waiting on the call today. Yeah i never got a receipt for my swap. Ended up getting a new long block and well it's a long story. Anyhow, my s15 front end and kouki tails, wheels and tires came with the car. I put in the rb25det so i don't have receipts for the stuff that came on it already. we'll see what happens. He wants to offer me more than 2000 now and total it. We'll see what happens. I'll keep you guys posted.

by the way i found a dash at a salvage yard for $69 and sunroof for $130 those were the main things that were stolen.

if they give ya $2500, total it but keep it with clear title, you should be good to go.

i wouldn't sell it just like that, i'd keep it, fix it and keep goin with it, you'll more than likely have $$ left.

Isnt the insurance company required by law to report it if they declare the vehicle totalled? If they are willing to do this, I would guess that they still think they are getting a better deal.

Now, if you wanted to be shady, you could take your unbranded vins and import a JDM 240 and swap vins. terra 2 imports has a really nice selection of cars.

With all you have gone through, I think your car is cursed so if you decide to keep it and possibly part it out, let me know as I might want your front end conversion from you.

If it makes you feel any better, starting Sept 1st if you catch someone breaking into your home or car and feel threatened you can shoot them dead without any fear of prosecution.

Make sure you shoot him in your house though. If he's running through your front lawn and you shoot him in the back (which I advocate), make sure you drag him back in your house so the cops don't have to do anything as far as arresting you. One less life-wrecker off the planet is the way I look at it.

Semi truck merged into me a few days after I moved to AZ.. They sent out an adjuster, who valued my car at $1800. The damage was about $2100.. So they expected me to brand my title, and they'd give me my car and $1400.. So I told them to wipe my as5 with that $1400 while they get an appraiser out here and find out the real value of my car... After filling up about 2 pages worth of mods, and a whole memory card on the guys digital camera, they gave me $2100 for the damage, and just never gave me the final value of my car lol... Kept the clean title, got $2100, and I never had a damn reciept.
