ever since i've had the car, the passenger door lock hasnt' worked. like i can't use the key to unlock it. no big deal, i have keyless entry, and it unlocks it. so about a month ago, my battery in the keyless goes dead. okay, i'll get a new battery, and until then, use the key to unlock the drivers door to get in. well, i still havne't gotten a new battery cause i'm a lazy ***. well tonight i go out to my car, put the key in the drivers door to unlock it, and it doesn't turn. i'm like WTF?? so i keep tryin. i'm foolin with it and stuff. well, it doens't happen. great, i'll have to go thru the trunk. well, my trunk doesn't unlock from the outside either, cause i have the latch adjusted to where it won't rattle as much, but it puts more strain on the lock i guess, cause the key wont' turn that either. so my car is sittin in a not so good area, alone. its under a security light, but thats gonna do alot so i'm really pissed, and scared right now. anyone had this happen to them? if so, what was wrong? if not, do you just think the lock itself is broken?

edit: i'm a moron. i forgot to say that it in my works parking lot. there are alot of weird people around there, too. so thats why i'm so worried :scared

It doesn't help now, but pull your door panels off, the little metal bars connecting the lock inside to the door lock...you should see these hanging off if they popped out, this happened to my car after it got jimmied (locked my keys in my car). I know someone can be more articulate in explaining this.

OH yeah, this will help. Get a rubber door stop, or something similar, jam it in your window (on the side of the window, spreading it from the weatherstripping). Get a long piece of hanger and pop the lock (inside) old school style, this method is REALLY simply (and actually a little scary as to how easy it is to break into the 240). Should take you no more than 5 minutes. Good luck.

Rough....A good rule of thumb is to always fix things that break. Even if it's minor, fix it ASAP.Everything on a car was put on with a certain function in mind.

damn that's rough man, I know how annoying locks can be. When I had my wreck it knocked my driver's side locking mechinizm down inside the door, so I have to unlock from the passenger side

That sucks man... the s14 is especially easy to break into. Since there is no window frame, you can get a coat hanger in the car with a hook at one end, and run it down to the inside door handle. Then just hook the lock and pull it backwards.

Also, you can slide a coat hanger between the window and the outside door panel. Just get a (reverse) hook down about three inches below the outside door handle. You should feel it come up against a small metal plate.... hook it on there and push down.. should open like buddah!!!

Ben, did you fall under some badluck $hit!?? :confused That really sucks, hope you get it figured out. Which that reminds me since I read this, I need to get a copy of my car key made just incase. Sorry about you stubbing your toe on concrete block.

Maybe your week will get better in the long run. heh :)

ben,did this happen right after all the snow and ice we got? because a similar thing happened to me with the tercel and i couldn't get in. the passenger side like yours doesn't work with the key and the drivers side was facing the wind therefore froze up.

what about spraying some lock decicer to lube it up some and de-ice it if it's the problem?

guys, thanks for the good luck wishes and the praying to the nissan gods, lol. it paid off. i went back this morning, and she was fine. thank God. i went and tried the key again in the door, and it worked. so some moisture must have gotten in the locking mechanizm and just messed it up. some of my other friends had the same problem, so i dont feel as bad. Chris, yea this was after the snow and rain. i fixed my keyless entry also. since it wasn't working, and it had a brand new battery, i was really confused as to why it wasn't working. so i cleaned the contacts and raised them up, to make sure they would touch the battery. so its all good now. i was more worried about someone breaking all the glass out of the car or sumthing. thats a bad problem around here. but its all good now. she's safe here at home, all clean. i just washed her :D

Thats good news. When it snows or they call for ice and my car is home, i leave the doors unlock b/c I hate it when I have to yank the door open b/c its frozen. hehehe But the heater I have and put the thing on defrost, defrosts the whole car. Hope I find one later this year that can do that. :D

Anymore bad luck for you or did it pass?? How's your foot?

the drivers door on my firebird froze shut when it iced (it doesn't snow, it ices here). luckily the passenger door was not frozen shut so i got in that way, but still couldn't open the door until i ran the car for awhile. i believe it was 60 today, so i really never worry about it.
