car idles rough on cold mornings

i have a 96 s13 blacktop in my 97 it runs perfectly except when its really cold out it idles really rich lots of smoke out of exhaust i have to rev it up for like 5 mins then it goes back to normal. Im not sure what the problem is Im going to start by changing the plugs. Any help would be nice.

check your coolant temp connector for corrosion(2 wire one) also check your throttle body for carbon deposits around the throttle plate. clean with carb clean if black deposits are present. use a nylon brush not a metal one. after taking car of these problems or at least checking them. check your base idle.
