OK.. so I have a couple of questions or thoughts..
If you have aftermarket rims, do the rims have hubcentering rings? All the 240's use a 66.06 hub bore, so if your rims have a larger center bore you need hub centering rings to center rims on hub. That would be my first guess, but old problem may be sign of other problems. Alignment may be a concern and might be magnified by taller profile and newer grip. I'm guessing that tire width did not change? Are any rims bent (maybe you had a bent rim on rear of car before tire change and now it is located on front of car (you will feel a bent rim tons on front and may not have noticed it on rear as much). Sorry for all the questions, but I deal with this EVERY day at work and these are all things that can cause the shakes. Trust me.. Charleston SC (a town with cobblestone roads in some very fancy neighborhoods) + low profile tires = bent rims. I hope this gives you some direction or help.

thanks for the reply, the rims stayed in the same place because my rear rims are wider than the fronts. they are not bent but i do remember the guy telling me my front right rim was hard to get balanced. Im going to take it this weekend to get it aligned, looks like thats the safest bet but the most expensive too. shoudl i take it back to the tire place and tell them to check the balance again?

Start with the wheel balancing. Chances are they didn't balance properly and the shake is from the balance.

Are the new tires you put on actually new tires, or are they used? Used tires can be bad sometimes.. if they have been sitting for ages they can get a flat spot, or the tread can have some separation issues, you can get "cupping" or other strange wear. I bought a pair of used tires off a guy on craigslist last summer.. thought they were great because they had a ton of tread, and they balanced fine on the machine, but they were terrible on the road. I took it to a tire shop and the guy finally ran his hand across it and noticed that it was uneven.. he said it was "ply separation" or something like that. So it was a junk tire.. what a waste! Now I'm more careful about buying used tires!

Anyhow.. check tires and balance first. Then get the alignment checked if you still have an issue.
