In your opinion, what do you think is the leading cause of a car accident?

More people on the road?
Inexperienced drivers?
Distracted driving?
DUI?
Reckless driving / speeding?
Road conditions?
Weather?

In Phoenix, at least in the Valley, weather and road conditions aren't much of a factor. Although I will say that people who live here year round need to be cognizant of increasing road temps / tire temps. You see a lot of people with blown tires, victim of heat and the tires inability to withstand the temps of the road surfaces. If we lived in Philly, I'd just take the damn bus. It wouldn't be worth the potential damage to your car to even get out on the roads. As for the others, here's a scenario for you: "a young driver had too much to drink and slipped behind the wheel. He's swerving and he's trying to text his girlfriend while going down the 10 at 90 mph." :tisk:

Sounds like good news for the economy. Fatalities dipped significantly during the recession due to reduced rush hour traffic caused by unemployment.

Not sure which one is numero uno, but I would think there are some visible trends, like DUI's probably going down (as people have begun to feel the much more harsh fines/penalties associated with getting caught), and fewer are willing to risk doing it.

I'm sure Distracted driving is rising the fastest with people's growing obsession with texting/smart phones plus increasingly more cars coming equipped with those stupid computer screens, (like MyFordbadTouch or BMW's i-drive where i= idiotic) whose operation takes your attention away from driving for much longer than when there were simple separate buttons/knobs.

I vote distracted. I drive around all day every day and I see people on their phones sooo much now it's scary.

And to be clear, I can be a bit of a hypocrite in that I do take calls while I'm driving, but I do my damnest not to text and drive.

I think distracted drivers is most likely number 1. I noticed that I too had begun to fall into the bad habit of checking and replying to texts while driving. Even browsing the web. I realized that makes me a hypocrite so the most I'll do now is take/make a quick call that lasts no more than a minute or so.

Around here, if someone is slowing down traffic, they're either on the phone (90%), or old.
