Well as we all know, he ran over 4 roofing nails, and new tires are being put on tomorow (loaner tires WHUT)

And now after he INSISTED (meaning he tells me and I tell him that's ok and he doesn't take no for answer) I wax my car (original paint for 1989), you guessed it, ****ED UP. Why? Because elbow grease isn't going to get 14 years of oxidation out, no matter what his backwoods philosophy sais. So here I am. With black/grey swirls in my hood. And going to see if the carwash can buff it out with thier nifty giant buffo thing. Otherwise he claims he'll pay for a "CHEAP" paint job for me since he was the direct cause of the car getting ****ed up. This car is never comming back to this house again.

Toki, you're a tard. :D

Do your own research from now on. Everybody (except you and Pops) knows you don't WAX an oxidized car.

It can be salvaged - Compound and elbow grease... It's gonna take you all weekend, though.

You gotta start taking some responsibility here, bubba. We're here to help.

uh, last time i checked, i told him it wasn't a good idea, it wasn't a good idea, and it shouldn't be done. but none the less NO YOU DO IT IM YOUR FATHER I KNOW BEST BLAH BLAH BLAH. now look where it has the car. Believe me, I had a good idea this was comming, but I thought hey, you know he's probably waxed a few old cars in his life, maybe he knows something I don't...yeah well..he obviously didn't. He is like a small child. Only believes it if he sees it, and his 15 year old son who doesn't know anything about anything obviously can't tell him otherwise. Oh well. $30 to a carwash later hopefully their super buffo machine thing can fix it faster than my arms.

Ultimate car paint fixing regiment

1)small orbital buffer, extra pads $15-$20 at walmart1)Tub Turtle wax rubbing compound $21)Tub Turtle wax polishing compound $21)Tub Meguiars cleaner wax.

It will take a good solid day. Dont let either of the compounds dry. Use lots of water with both compounds. Take your time and let the buffer do the work. Remember to work in the shade. Paint should be cool to the touch. Also, take your time with the rubbing compound. A few minutes per square foot will do. The more compound you use, the faster it'll work. Try to space it out so the tub lasts the whole car so you don't have to buy more

If you are lazy, you can skip the polishing compound, but i suggest it :)

You'll be amazed with the results

If it's really oxidized, start with 600grit wet-dry and LOTS of water.

Im sorry, i thought you said laundry detergent. What did you use for an applicator? An eggo? Do you use cheese for wheel chucks?

Anways i've never heard of that. what do you mean discolores?Did you try rubbing compound then wax? If it doesnt work, i'll eat my own dog's eyes with some fava beans.

hey man at least your dad is cool, and is killing you with kindness, i know some peoples dads would be like "i didnt hit any nails" or "the swirls werent there when i finished" even if they help at all.

ask him how much he'll put down for a nice paint job instead of him paying the full amount for a cheap one,:ylsuper thats what i would do.

Theres that Alabama wit. :rolleyes

LAUNDRY DETERGENT. YES. it comes in boxes, sometimes tubs, sometimes even premade tablets, I wouldn't expect you to know as you only wash your overalls twice a year down in the creek, but really now...just go on ****ing your sister and mind your business.

damn dude i was just kidding. That was rude as hell too seeing how i spent all that time typing to try and help you out. I wasnt making fun of you, just making a joke and you go off personally insulting me. I should have expected it from someone who badmouths their father online and thinks that wax can damage paint.

If you'd have listened to MY advice instead of your 'the guy at the carwash' you'd be in a better situation right now wouldn't you? Next time you have a problem i'll take your advise and 'mind my own business'

Btw im a self employed programmer. What do YOU do?

Ouch...he's 15...what COULD he be doing (considering schools are extremely anal about work permits). Cut the kid a break, he obviously didn't take the joke the way you expected it.

Well, he could be doing research on the Net with all that free time...and figuring out what NOT to wash his car with, instead of listening to Bubba down the corner telling him to clean his paint with Mountain Scent Tide.

J92s tried to help you out and his joke was pretty harmless...I don't see why you felt the need to deliver this sophomoric stereotype of "Alabama" which was both insulting and inappropriate....but hey, don't let me stop you from burning those pesky bridges. You reap what you sow. :tisk:

If i get time later today, I'll take pics of the before and after parts of my paint with my mysterious new-fandangled digital camera which I have no understanding of because im a stupid redneck.

I've fixed up a couple sections but some are still oxidized because i havent had much time to worry about asethetics. It takes a long time to use the buffer because most of the time I forget where the 'ON' switch is because im that stupid. I just hope I have enough time after washing my overalls in the creek and having sexual relations with family members and livestock.

Hey buttforbrains:

I'm from Alabama. I'll refrain from pummeling you mercilessly, seeing as how you're half my age... I trust you to drop an apology on j92s (and make it a good one).

Anyway, next time you screw up your car by listening to some $4.50-an-hour snaggle-tooth miscreant down at the corner carwash, perhaps you might first check with the experts (yes, I said experts) here at NICO. If there was bad advice floating around here, it'd get deleted... "Car-Wash Man" has no such accountability.

Some of us were rehabbing bad paint when you were still a stain in daddy's drawers.

This thread is thoroughly entertaining!

Some dude who was sitting in the parking lot at Wallmart told me that I can take care of oxidation by soaking a beaver pelt in turpentine, stuffing it down my pants for an hour and then rubbing down my car with the pelt, followed by steel wool.

Errr...no, nevermind.

I've always had good luck with Meguiars Three Step stuff, but I'm not sure how much oxidation we're talking about. Meguiars and plenty of elbow grease has always worked for me. I'll probably try it on my fiance's old Escort, which has some serious oxidation. That should be the big test.

Some southerners might be a couple fries short of a happy meal, but at least we know:

1. Wax cannot ruin paint2. Elbow grease WILL get 14 years of oxidization out3. Not to take advice from Bubba

Btw dude, the way you talk about your dad makes you come off as spoiled and disrespectful. You should be happy you have a car. Wanting your dad to pay for new paint cause he gave some not-so-good advise is super lame. If my dad wanted to spray paint my car pink, theres not much I could say because he put food in my mouth and gave me a place to stay for 18 years. When i was 15, my parents bought me a $300 brown subaru GL...and i was happy to have something to drive.

I still can't begin to understand why you didnt take my advice in my first post. Did you see 'Alabama' under my name and decide from that i can't possibly know what i'm talking about?

Agreed.

That's like asking my dad to pay for an $8500 engine replacement in my Q45 because he says, "You only need to change the oil in a newer car every 6K miles."

Yeah ok your post came off as way less than respectful buddy, so I hope you understand where I was comming from. If you really didn't mean it fouly, then i'm sorry, all is forgivin I hope you can do the same. But up until basically this point, I had never met or talked to a person from anyplace east of Texas that I could even stand to be around, seriously, so be happy you arn't a douchebag like the other 99% people i've ever met from that area, and just know i'm cool with you.

Whoa... less than respectful? I typed out like a bunch of crap to help you then you rub laundry detergent on your car, I make a joke about an eggo (which is so obviously a joke), then you start cutting me down and stuff and you want ME to apologize? Sorry not going to happen.

I don't know if you've just met a lot of bad people from the southeast, but just about everybody i've meet since I moved to Alabama has been down to earth and friendly. Maybe they just didnt like YOU. Peace i'm out.

To me that came off as sarcastic and talking down. Seemed you were implying that it was SOO out of the world to use laundry detergent, that I might have used an eggo as an applicator. That's what that sais to me.

Well there are car products for a reason, and as AZhitman said, you've got a lot of very knowedgable people here and given that, taking advice from some carwash employee wasnt your best move (and im sure you've learned your lesson). Unless the laundry detergent actually changed the color of your paint (black->orange) or something, you're probably still going to be able to restore it.

I've used that process on probably 8-10 cars and it always comes out great. When i got my 240, i thought that even this car's paint is too far gone to fix, but with a little work, the parts i've worked on don't look bad at all.

You're young still, so being a little selfish and stuff (you've displayed this several times in this thread) is understandable, but don't bite from the hands that feed you. Good luck with your paint.

The laundry detergent helped tremendously btw. After letting it sit and dry and taking it out today to get the tires replaced, you really dont even notice it in the sunlight unless you look hard. It doesn't matter though, it will be sitting in the Maaco garage in under a weak so no worries...
