Ok i have a 1990 240sx ka24e. This is my problem, when im on the interstate if i accelerate up to about 3500rpm in 5th gear, my car will die out until it gets back down to about 3000rpm again. When it happens if i push the gas pedal in i does nothin until the rpms go down again. Im not sure how fast i am goin because my speedometer hasnt worked for the past year( ) but im pretty sure that im not going any faster than 80mph. Any ideas what it could be. Its getting pretty annoying because i cant pass people when i need to. thanks for any help

I've have the exact same problem from time to time, also in 5th. It only does it every once in a while, so it hasn't really bothered me, but I'd like to know what the hell this is as well.

i think that is what happens when your computer recognizes something wrong. mine did it cuz my CTS wasn't working. when i figured that out and replaced it it went away. coincidence? maybe, the cut out was pretty intermittent.

go through all the sensors in the car and make sure they're all working, something may be not working correctly even if the check engine light isnt on.

the older sohc computer is usually the one that tends to cut out the most (the one with the number 10 on it). i switched out my computer to the newer sohc computer(number 14) and it didnt do it, put the older one back in and it did it.

but yeah thats what i think it is. i asked the same question like 6 months ago and nobody could help me. so i had to figure it out myself. thats what i did to fix it.

good luck

Thanks for the help man. I will probbaly get an ECU from a junkyard, but what is the CTS, collant temp sensor right? Thats on the intake manifold right?

it could also be that although a few of the plugs on my transmission arent plugged in and it hasnt been an issue for me.

dont jump to conclusions with it being the coolant temp sensor or the ECU. test all the sensors and make sure its one of them. no need in waisting your money on a ECU or a CTS sensor when it could be something else

well i know its not my speed sensor because i replaced that when trying to get my speedometer to work(still didnt work) And im wondering if the speedometer problem and dying thing could be related, does the speed sensor go to the ecu before the cluster?

yeah its your limiter theres a wire you can cut I guess or just get the ECU's limiter removed. Mine did it as well.

Pull a code from the computer. I had a similar problem with ignition cutting out around 2500-3k no matter what gear I was in. I pulled a code and it said "cam position sensor". Bought a used distributor from a junkyard and the problem was solved.

well i would do that but this would be my 4th or 5th dizzy, something has to be killing the sensor. Does anyone know or have an idea what it might be?
