Alright here's what's going on

93 240sx with SR20DET.

Alternator died and I was like, time to get my hands dirty and do it myself. After a lot of research, a broken ratchet set, and some help from my buddy I had it done. So I thought, the belt ended up shredding on me because it was not the right size.

Anyways I replaced the pulley on the alternator in order to match up with my crank shaft and everything was going peachy, until my car decided it did not want to start up. The alternator is about a week old and the batter was two months old so I'm kind of lost as to what the problem is.

I looked over the ground wires for the alternator and everything is connected correctly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've already pumped alot of time into doing this and would rather finish this myself instead of admitting defeat and taking it into a mechanic.

So you got the car running shortly after you installed the alternator and now it doesn't want to start or it doesn't start since you installed the alternator? Make sure your battery is full charged and that all of your connections are clean and tight.

Installed the alternator and charged the battery. Started her up and the rpm would revv up and then drop. This lasted for a minute and I turned the car off. Tried to start it up again and it wouldn't. Undid all the connections to check for grime or buildup and nothing. Just trying to figure out if the battery not holding a charge is due to the new alternator, a bad battery or if the revving rpm at idle gave anyone any ideas on what could be wrong.

Going to get a new battery. After the first install of the alternator I took it for a quick test drive around the block and that's when the belt shredded. I then had to pray as I drove back on nothing but the battery that it didn't die, so I'm thinking that the abuse caused the battery to s*** the bed.

you need a new battery and DONT over tighten the belt next time.

Over tightened belt will do this to me? I know why the first one shredded, I had a 4 rib belt on a 5 rib pulley, slipped out of slot and shredded it.

It is very possible though that I over tightened the belt. I want to make sure I didn't get a squeeling, but I don't see how it could cause the battery to die and not let the alternator charge it.

the number of ribs does not matter and you only want it tightened to 1/4 turn
