i have a ton of threads going at once so bare with me. first off 90 chassis 93de swapped in.

removed emissions, extra vac lines and complete a/c. removed manual fan and have elec fan in (single 10" wired to fuel pump, ill fix this summer.)

if i start the car up then turn the key off it hesitates then shuts off, if i drive the car around and it warms up then shut the key off it hesitates then shuts off.

when i mean hesitate i dont literally mean it, it runs normally for about 3-5 seconds before shutting down.

ive searched and i havent found a thread like my question, all the ones i found were car wont shut off, key wont turn, etc..

ive gone thru all my grounds like 3 times due to other kinks im working out and they are fine. cant seem to find a vac leak (carb cleaner check) and my ignition worked perfectly fine when a sohc.

ecu not throwing any codes.

it could be the fan, i had a camaro do that to me once, it had an after market fan wired up incorrectly. it turns out that the fan was generating a small bit of power and the motor would keep running till the fan lost momentum. unplug the fan, start the car and shut it off to see it thats it

yeah the PO of the Camaro hooked the fan up to the coil (not sure why he would do that???? ) so when i would shut the car off the coil was still getting power from the fan.

let me know if that works

The problem is indeed the fan wired to the fuel pump fuse. It used to do it to mine all the time when I had electric fans.

Yeah it sounds like the fan to me too. A good friend of mine had an Austin Healey replica on 4 lug ford mustang suspension with a 302 HO. It always ran rather warm so instead of leaving it hooked to a thermostatic control he hooked up the fan to his ignition switch... and wound up with the same problem you have.

He really wanted the fan on whenever the car was running. I told him the cheapest thing I could do was put a diode in the line, so that's what we did. It worked great! And like a couple bucks at Radioshack.

Rule of thumb though... get the largest 12v diode you can find. You can even solder two in parallel next to each other too just to split up some of the effort dealing with fan amperage.

or run it properly with a relay.

i hate when people skimp on wiring/fail at the basics.

the only reason i did it that way was because i was in a rush to get car on road seeing how i didnt drive it for 2 years. its the only thing i skimped on believe me.

im ordering the dif fan controller this week and ill be picking up a couple electric fans next week so the issue will be solved

Very true. A relay is the right way to fix it. And for only like 5 or 6 bucks. Although a proper diode is a quick cheap and safe fix, you can run the risk of robbing possibly needed coil supply, fuel pump, etc power.

Was just thinking of a way Lucky, not knowing experience level, could do this himself without having to get too involved with system wiring or having to pay someone else, or changing anything from what he has other than a splice... And possibly with the remains of that old battery charger sitting in the garage with the cooked transformer too. Now that would equal free!

A dif fan controller sure is nice. Seems a bit steep though new. Maybe it's not, I don't know...

Screw the turbo timer, this is what I'm going with . Guess I'll just need some more rotating mass on my fans to keep it idling a little longer...
