ok,

today i did a grip of stuff to my car... first off all i finished the last part of my SEAFOAM... i added it to the breake boost and smoked the hell out of my car... i flushed my radiator, changed my oil, changed my spark plugs, plug wires, and o2 sensor...

first we only used 3 new wires and 1 old... it worked fine... bc we thought they gave us one bad wire... so we used that... and the car ran fine... i drove to dinner and back...

now when i get home i look back in the box and realized my friend didnt see the extra wire they gave us... so i decided to change the old wire with the new wire... so now i have all new wires... aurora 8.5mm... i go back i try to start the car... and it doesnt even crank ! i thought i might have gotten the firing order wrong... so i changed the order of the plugs... over and over again... still doesnt seem to crank... so i dont know whats wrong...

when i try starting it seems like i dont have my foot on the clutch, even though my foot is as far as it can go... the radio is still works, lights and everything... it just doesnt crank, dont understand why... can anyone help ? does it have to do with the distributer or anything ?... someone please reply... and keep on replying... if you read this... REPLY !... cant drive my car anywhere to have things checked... so yeah... i dont want to have my car towed... thanks... and dont forget to REPLY !

oh, i forgot to mention... when i tried to change that one old wire with the new one... i first disconnected wire 4, then wire 1, then put 4 into 1 and the new wire into 4... was that bad ? i read the instructions again later and it said to only disconnect one at a time and to replace one at a time... so was it bad that i disconnected two at one time ?... hope you got what i said

no you can install the wires anyway you want and the car will still crank. it may not run if you got the firing order wrong but it will crank. you either knocked something loose or its a pure coincidence the problem is happening now. with your head lamps on and trying to crank do the headlamps dim? if not it is not your battery thats dead. you have a clutch interupt problem most likely. find the switch that the clutch pushes on when trying to start unplug it and put a paper clip in the connector connecting both terminals and try to start your car. MAKE SURE YOUR IN NUETRAL when you do this. before doing this though make sure you dont have your floor mat bunched up under the pedal not allowing it to go down far enough to push the switch.

"with your head lamps on and trying to crank do the headlamps dim? if not it is not your battery thats dead."

my radio turns on... so could i still have a dead battery ? i guess ill try that

"find the switch that the clutch pushes on when trying to start unplug it and put a paper clip in the connector connecting both terminals and try to start your car."

any idea on what it looks like ? the plug/switch i mean ?

so my car doesnt crank possibly bc of a dead battery... or bc of a clutch problem... any other ideas on how to fix it ?

mine did the same thing last week then i changed the starter. when i pushed in the clutch all the way the stereo would go on and dash lights too, but no turning at all.

Maybe it isn't your starter because it worked fine (im assuming) before you started messing with stuff. However, those are signs of a starter.

is there a way to check my starter ? where is it btw ?...

my radio and lights work just fine, i didnt have to have my clutch all the way down to make my radio and lights work... how much is a starter ? is it easy to replace ?

starter is easy if you know what your doing. Its located on the passenger side of the transmission (connected to it by 2 bolts)

The first bolt is easy as you can see it right there, its kind of long, you will definitely need deep socket/wrench.

The second bolt is a little above it and to the left, you need to scoot back a little to see it, its tough to get to and you really need the deep socket here.

I also just realized you have an S13 but to the best of my knowledge they are in the same place and are the same size. Once you yank your starter out you can have it tested for free at your local auto zone. A starter from them usually needs to be ordered (3 days max) and is about $115 HOWEVER i would advise against getting any starters from any parts store unless your really low on cash. A good genuine nissan starter from the dealer would be about $350 or more. Get it slightly used from ebay or the forums and you can't go wrong. Go genuine though, that's my advice

anyone got a pic of a starter ?... i think i know but im not sure... the two places that im thinking of right now is... theres a mechanism to the left of the oil filter... standing from the passenger side looking at the engine... and the other place is near the intake manifold... almost right below it, to the left kinda... anyone got picture, it would help me out more i think, thanks

k... just got home tonight bc i was out at a friends for the day... i came home i tried to start up the car, the clutch was clearance was good and i had my stock wires inside... and i tried it... and it STARTED ! i was like DAMN... it works... but its rpm was going up and down like crazy... so i turned it off... then i decided to put in my new wires... i tried to start it again... AND NO CRANK !... i turned on the headlights and tried to crank, the lights did not dim... so i decided to change back to the stock wires... tried to crank and it didnt...

so over a period of 'rest' the starter is fine ?... sorta ?... it seemed to started my engine... are these signs of a faulty starter ? i get to start it again tomorrow morning... i need to go to school on monday... damn... need to know if it is a starter or not... dont want to get one and not have it work.. thanks ! dont forget the pic

when looking down in your engine bay from the passenger side at the rear of your engine ,at the bottom bolted to the trans bellhousing is a dual cylinder looking thing one small cylinder mounted atop a larger cylinder. this is your starter. when it wont start have some one hold the key in the start position while you hit the starter with a large bar. if it fires over you have bad contacts in the starter solonoid. only way to replace it is to replace the whole starter.

Try checking the wire connections on the starter solenoid. I would recommend getting a Chilton repair manual so you don't end up unbolting something you weren't supposed to. It aslo has pictures for you. By the way, after you unbolt the two bolts that hold the starter on, there are some wire connections you will have to unbolt as well. Most starters you get at parts stores are remanufactored genuine Nissan starters so they will work fine. Most will have a nice lifetime warranty, too. Here is another idea for you. Just this week the alternator on our Saturn went bad and the car wouldn't even crank. It was really weird. Sometimes the lights and stuff would work and sometimes it acted like it had a dead battery. When it did work it had the really jumpy idle and would die. I had just replaced the battery a few weeks before cause it was old so I new it wasn't that. Replaced the alternator with one from Oreily's and took in the old one to have it tested and sure enough it was bad. Everything works fine now. You could probly replace the alternator yourself too but do us a favor and buy one of those repair manuals.

k...

today went down to arcadia to pick up a starter off a junked engine... it works fine just that my friend took it out for his sr swap... so i got the starter... rolled my car up a hill and down into a curb to get some height... then jacked it up some more... took off the starter and put in the new one... the starter that was off my car was a remanufactored one... and it looked bigger than the other one which was a nissan... now that i have the nissan one inside... it cranks a little longer than it used to to start up the car... does it take longer to start up because of the samller starter ? just curious... thanks

eventually i think im gonna have to get a new starter anyway... this one has about 120k on it i think... hopefully itll hold off for a while
