car does not start

so I go to start my car right after I washed it and the car won't start. When I hold the brake and push the start button it makes a weird sputter noise and all the lights turn off. It doesn't sound like a normal crank either like how when you usually start a car but almost like a weird grinding noise.

I brought it brand new back in April, only has around 5600 miles on it and hadn't had any problems until now. Called the dealership and left a message so hopefully I can get an appointment tomorrow and hopefully it's nothing serious.

has this happened to anyone else here?

Yes. It sounds like death doesn't it? But it is only a dead battery. Happened to me at like 10k. And a jump start doesn't work unless you leave the other car connected for a while. Just get it to the dealer (or have them tow it for you since it's under warranty) and they'll give you a new battery. Make sure they double check the grounding cables on the car while they're at it.

wow ... its funny i came here and found this thread. I also had to jump my car for the first time since I bought the car. My car is at 32K miles and little over 2 years old. Lately my car's been having hard time starting.. but always started till tonight.

Arent these batteries supposed to last like 4 or 5 years? Mine is dieing after 2... and another poster on this forum , his battery died in 10k miles? wow

My battery has died twice (2 years ; 38k miles) but they were my fault. Once I left my lights on on accident, the second time I was playing the radio too long. After a jump and about a minute of waiting (with cars connected) I was good to go. I do hate that sound though, Scared the hail out of me the first time

so true but yeah its probably the battery i had the same thing happened to me.. or you ran out of gas. i had that happened to me to i ran out of gas inside the busiest tunnel in nyc dont ask me how that happened i ended up causing so much traffic had to have the cops bush me out.. now thats a FAIL !!

dude so bad..!!! i didnt know what to do. the car just sputtered a bit and died in the middle of the tunnel i get out the cars behind me are like WTF i just shrug my shoulders and start walking towards the other end of the tunnel next thing i see see 4 cops coming towards me stop all trafic tell me to get the f**k in the car and this little cop truck gets behind me and pushes me out i was so scared they would crack my ED bumper... horrible worst FAIL ever

my battery died a few weeks ago at around a year and a month with 8k miles on it...at least warranty covered like 60% of the charge for a new battery but still..

hmm... warranty... I have a subwoofer and autostarter hooked up. Do you think the dealership will honor my warranty for battery or tell me to for **** myself?

saaame shizz happened to us back when we first got it.i had them give me a new battery because the battery that came with it was SMALL! alls been well ever since, been thinking about getting the optima battery duno which tho...

yeah I know for sure I didn't leave anything on in the car to drain the battery and I still got 3/4 of a tank. Called the dealership and they're gonna have someone come and tow it for me because it's in my driveway and there is no way I can get a car in there to jump it.

They said that if they run a test to see if something I left on is the result of a dead battery then I would have to pay for the tow and battery....they better try not to jip me

Happened to me more than 3 times, try to tighten your battery and jump the car again. I've done it and never have any problem ever since.

Funny this happened to me at 10k as well. I was freaking out bc idk what happened. Then my neighbor came w/ jumpers and nothing happened. We were out their for like 45min min. My dad tried it once and it turned on.

Just had to replace my battery a week ago. 19k miles, purchased in July 2007. Ridiculous.

turned out to be a dead cell in thebattery, luckily I didn't have to pay for the tow, battery, or work...I find it a lil unsettling that almost every1 who had a dead battery had a 3.5
