I have a 2004 Infiniti G35x and after owning it for 2 yrs i recently replaced the battery....since replacing the battery my car starts but dies right after. If i rev the engine a little then the car stays on. Sometimes it actually starts and stays on but it seems like it does it when it wants too! I really need help because i'm hearing so many different things...some say the car has to reset itself but some say that i may have an alternator problem. When i had the old battery in i never had a problem so i am thinking its not the alternator. If anyone knows of this or has heard of this problem please help me out because i really don't want to go to the dealer and pay basically labor costs if its something that i can avoid.

How long ago did you install the battery? Are the terminals tight?

I know that having taken off my terminals a lot the negative sometimes doesn't hold a tight connection unless I pinch it a little with pliers. Maybe yours isn't fully tight like mine was?

It's possible that you have a dirty MAF sensor or a vacuum leak also.

Check your air filter, it sounds like its gasping for O2...

Did you check your terminals? Re-tighten everything to be sure.

o4 g35x, same problem very intermittent for about 10 starts after new battery. Thought it was wet engine or bad gas. Went away about 2 weeks now.

Car must be relearned after new battery. Here is procedure. Start car and put a/c on coldest setting, put in drive--wait 60 secs--turn off a/c--wait 60 secs--put in Park and turnoff--wait 60 secs--restart. That should do it.My good friend is Infiniti service mgr and says local mechanic would probably not do it and he is right because I watched my guy do it and he changed batteries and then just gave me the keys. If Infiniti did it he said tech would have done this procedure.

Thank you all for all the help...I feel loved!!! I actually talked to an Infiniti tech at a dealership in my area and he told me I had to relearn the throttle valve. I'm not sure if thats exactly what he said but he told me to turn the key to ON for 2 secs then OFF for 10 secs then ON for 2 secs then OFF for 10 secs....he told me to repeat this 3 times and then start the car. I started the car and there wasnt a problem...i was amazed so pulled over and turned the car off then back on at least 4 times on my way home just to be sure. I just can't believe the problem was sooooo simple to fix. Thanks to you all for the help and I LOVE MY INFINITI again! LOL
