car damage

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hi,

A car hit my 2011 Ex35 while that car was going backwards. There are some damages on the fender and driver door.

I do not want this incident to affect the resale value of my car. Do you recommend replacing the fender and door or fixing them? The insurance of the other car will pay for it so the cost is not important.

Here is the image:

Thanks!

If they will pay for it either way, have it replaced. I would just make sure to find out who the Infiniti dealership in your area uses for bodywork as they tend to be more meticulous than other shops that insurance might get you to use. Also, since there is no serious damage to the car, it shouldn't effect resale value at all.

Was there a police report filed? If so, that will show up on a Carfax report which could affect resale value. In any event, I would file a diminished value claim with the insurance company once the repairs have been completed.

Can you take a closer-up photo, if you can?

It is my belief that the insurance connection is the one that triggers CARFAX reports, not police or body shops.

I have had some work done on three of my cars in the past two years. Two were handled privately after police reports were filed, no insurance, just body shop and a personal check from the responsible party. One was handled through an insurance company. The insurance covered accident appeared on the CARFAX, the other two did not.

It has to be the Insurance company as carfax reports also the cost of repairs. Police wouldn't have that info.
