Has anyone used a penske car carrier to tow their QX4? The website says a QX4 isn't a suitable vehicle but a pathfinder is. Makes no sense. Thanks.

It's a weight and tire diameter issue. The Penske car carrier has a 4050 pound load capacity. The '03 QX4 with 4WD has a curb weight of 4352 pounds and without 4WD it's 4074 pounds. The tire diameter limit for the Penske car carrier is 28". The wheel base length and track width of the '03 QX4 are within the carrier limits of 125" X 79" but the P245/65R17 tires on the '03 QX4 have a diameter of 29.5", an inch and half too large. As for the Pathfinders, not all of them will qualify within the Penske carrier limits. The '03 Pathfinders without 4WD are less than 4050 pounds but the '03 models with 4WD are over the weight limit. Additionally, all '03 Pathfinders' tire diameters exceed the 28" limit as well. Only the older Pathfinders with 15" wheels would qualify within the overall 28" limit, given the tire sizes installed for those year models.

Wow! Thanks for that explanation mdmellott. My QX4 is 4WD so I see why it's over. I was thinking about putting my QX4 on the penske trailer anyways and hoping for the best, but after your explanation it sounds like it may not work.

The u-haul car carrier allows the QX4 so I guess I'll have to go that route. I like the Penske diesel trucks better so that's what bugs me. They require you to use only their equipment on their trucks too.
