Im asking here because i seriously need help. There's only two people i can trust with their knowledge. My dad lives out of country and this other guy lives like an hour away and has a busy schedule. I seriously did not know i could bargain when buying a car until 2 days ago.

I need tips on what type of questions to ask, what to look for and anything other miscellaneous stuff concerning financing and shopping for a car. Help please

When I bought my Versa, I'd checked all my local dealership ads, cut out a bunch offering to match downpayments between $500 and $700. I got the recent college grad rebate for financing through Nissan, and I just handed the ads to the salesguy, he talked to his people, and he got $600 taken off the price. Ask if you can do without factory mats, or other accessories.

Best tip is to tease the dealer. Get close to signing & no matter how low he goes, say you need to think it over. Leave after an hour of barganing, saying you need to think it over & check out other dealers.

You can even say Dealer X said I could have it for (insert price) ($50 -100 less/month or $2,000-3,000 less overall). Even if its a lie, they are lying to you.

These two kill them & usually bring you the lowest price.

Alway be willing to walk away. Once they see your hooked, you are toast.

Dealer loyalty will cost you $$$. Remember any Nissan dealer can work on your car for warranty issues. Your $$$'s are more important.

ETA: try to get pre-approved at your bank for a car loan.

When I got mine, the dealership was under new management. I got a very low offer from an Autonation dealer. The new dealer was advertising if they couldn't beat another dealers price, you get a Z.

After haggling for a bit, I said $17,000 is a very good price for a Versa & Z. I'll take them.

They tried to say the Z offer didn't apply to new cars, but the add in the paper said any 2006 or 2007 car. I handed them the add & said where does it say that? Then said, I can call my lawyer & the BBB on your new dealership for false advertising. They asked to see the Autonation bid on an identical Versa, except for color. Walked out with my Versa under sticker with 100k/6year extended warranty plus tax. They made the minimum amount of money off me. Remember I bought mine when Versas were going for 3-4k over sticker.

I don't think CapitalOne is bad at all. They gave me a low rate when no one else would. I have both my car and truck through them. I tried LendingTree but none of their bankers want to work with you. Eloan claims to be simple, but expensive. They didn't give me good rates. The dealers...I don't even want to go down that road. I've been using CapitalOne for 4 Years now and I haven't had any problems. I don't think the blank checks are a great idea. Some people aren't disciplined enough to watch how much they spend. They start out with, "I'm going to buy a used Civic for 11k" then CapitaOne sends them a blank check for 35k. Then you see them in the new IS.

3-4k over? When did you buy your V? I paid the exact sticker price when I got mine.

I went to the Nissan site and after selecting a dealer and looking at their inventory, I requested a quote on a particular Versa. They emailed back a quote that was under invoice.

I had already researched prices at Edmunds and Kelly and felt like this was a good price. Went by that afternoon to put a deposit on the car and went by the next afternoon with a check and picked up the car.

Stop by a bookstore and look for "Don't Get Taken Every Time."
