I found a 96 I30 5 speed locally.

Car has 150k on it.Fresh Paint (Gotta check title)Aftermarket 18sAftermarket audio

The Bad:

It's got an ODM tachometer (WHY? And I don't think that's the name...)Momo door insert thingiesUnderglowsRear glue-on autozone junkDebadgedOwner is obviously a wannabe racer (I can say that since I just sold my G35 and bought my wife and Evo 8 this weekend.) Who knows how he's driven it.

He wants $3k for it...

Blue book in excellent condition is $27xx

I know that the engine has massive potential for longevity, just not sure. I took my last I30 to 280k before selling it and last I heard it was still driving around.

Opinions please.

That makes two of us. It's in one of the pictures. Look at the pillar and there's a huge Tach attached to the pillar.

I'd really rather pick up an 02-04 WRX and call it a day, but the I30 I can pay cash for. Not really the case with a rex...

Check compression and condition of fluids. By the sound of things, he probably won't have maintenance records.

Is there really a need to get crabby?

Scott...It's me...Nate. I'm a PITA by definition

I'm tempted to rob a bank and join NICO's underground club instead. I guess I should drive a 5 speed I30 and see if it fits the bill.

She's wanted one since she was 16. i was originally going to get an 06 WRX, but it's too small inside. The Evo is larger and she likes the body. So we sold her Celica and bought an 04 White Evo SSL. Got a crazy low price (salvage title). Dynoed 302 on pump gas.

I drive almost 600 miles a week. there's no point in getting poor gas mileage and depreciate an race car with a commute. plus maintenance. Her commute is 2 miles to work and 2 back.

So we can drive the evo on the weekends. I'd love a bugeye sedan, but my budget might be able to extend to $5k if I stretch it.

How's the insurance on the Evo? You can find a much better car if you stretch to $5K.

Not bad, but we have it covered for minimum annual mileage (4k per year). We'll probably exceed that, but I can't give a good estimate to the insurance company since my wife's commute is only 1040 miles per year...

Right now, we have progressive with a decent bit more than the minimum coverage, $500 deductible. $92 per month.

I'm assuming it's liability coverage only but that is still a very reasonable rate for an Evo.
