So has anyone else experienced aftermarket head units and J30s with the car phone installed. This 93 came with a car phone installed and I removed it. I installed the new radio from my 94 J30 and now I dont get any sound from the speakers. When my Dad had his '97 J30 his had a car phone also and he said when he would get a call it would cut out what the radio was playing and use the car speakers for the phone. Is there a way to bypass this or something I have overlooked when installing the aftermarket radio? I get no sound with any of the sources (AM/FM, CD, USB, iPod or AUX)

The cool thing I found the other day was this:

Its a full factory service manual that fits perfectly in the compartment in the trunk near the jack. Never had this in the '94 and the '97 J30 I have owned.

guess not on the audio. plug for the phone is under the carpet next to passenger seat so have to unbolt it and get it out.

My car came with the phone too when I purchased it. I never activated it, even though Infiniti offerred me the first 6 months of local calling free.

yah i can post a pick up of the phone itself. with the phone there is a mic near the cruise control on/off switch and a receiver in the rear over the gas tank. the phone that was in this one is in the center console.

as for radio they had an aftermarket on in the car when i got it. the harness had 1 wire that was different from my 94 so gonna run by an audio shop right next to my camps and see if there is a difference.

I think my phone is somewhere in a box in either the garage of basement. I will have to look for it.

-- Pulled all of the phone stuff out of my 93 and it was a wreck... A bunch of short wires were spliced together to connect the uniden brain in the trunk to the stereo and the headliner mounted mic, I think it must have been an option that was installed at the dealerships. I dont see how theres any way that mess came from the factory, there were easily 20-30 different sections. I honestly felt like it was a fire hazard. As far as how the stereo worked with it, idk, bc my Bose was doa and immediately replaced w aftermarket stuff. I also have the service manual in the binder in the cubby hole. I think the Japanese mkt ones had a toolkit in that spot...

well i got the speakers to work finally. took a few tries to figure out but what i had to do was to be holding the end button on the phone and then turn the key to on. they speakers came on with the radio finally and then i went to the trunk and unhooked the phone unit. this makes it so that the speakers work each time. before i did that the phone would kick back on and i would lose the speakers each time i turned the car on. now i can hook my 12" sub back up and put the rest of my car back together.

after this i just need hood and trunk repainted, fix door locking mechanisms, swap all the keyholes and new front suspension.
