Well, finally got tired of the "crappy" sound. Keep in mind, this setup is designed to allow me to pull the system relatively easy for drag racing, so everything is mounted to the box. I just have to disconnect power/ground/remote/RCA's to remove the box.

My previous setup can still be seen here: http://www.moodym.com/maxima/audio/maxaudio.html

I have just upgraded the system as of this week. Nothing major, dependant on your viewpoint.

New amp: Alpine MRP-M450 monoblock (400WRMS @ 2ohm)

New sub: Diamond CM312D4 ( 12" DVC )

Night view:

I ordered a dash kit for the car and plan on initially installing my old Eclipse ECD-413. This will probably be upgraded to a newer HU and a PAC SWI-X for steering wheel controls in the future. Unfortunately, two weeks later, I have yet to receive the kit.

nice clean install aud.

I've got that same sub sitting in my closet. IIRC the ported box volume to get a reasonably flat reasponse is close to 4ft^3. How much did you give your's?

How much clearance is there between the driver in the front view pic?

Ends up the Diamond was blown, so I had to go back to the Infinity

"How much clearance is there between the driver in the front view pic?"

Clearance from the sub to the back of the seat? Probably 6" or more dependant on where you measure. 6" may be the average. The factory sub is out, so I have a nice vent into the interior and the top/sides are open into the trunk so as to not limit air movement.

Matt you need a big nasty sub . Or some in an isobaric set-up.

Would you be interested in an old Pheonix Gold amp?

I think I have the amps I need. There is nothing nicer than the a/d/s amp I have for mids/highs. The thing rocks! The Alpine I have puts out just enough. At this point, I just need to get the rattles out and potentially upgrade to a better sub after I install my Eclipse HU.

I was thinking about something yesterday and today.

Why not use a PA driver for a car sub? THey generally have an FS in the area of 30~50hz. A sensitivity above 95dB 1w/1m. And when put in ~6ft^3 enclosure(undersized) they getting a really large spike at the tuning frequency. And the best thing is that they're around $100 for a 15" driver, and $150 for an 18".

It'd seem to me that this would be th eway to go. I'm actually considering doing this in my pimpin' wagon just for fun

I don't want to take up my whole trunk for a sub setup

The thing is, it wouldn't!

You can squeeze an 18" PA driver into a 6ft^3 box. Tune it to ~30~40hz. THis will give you a ~15dB peak at this frequency with most PA drivers.

6ft^3 isn't much. 3x2x1. 2x2x1.5, etc...

You get the point. It's a regular enclosure!
