car anti-start feature thing... question

So if I don't have my key nearby (within 36 inches or so), then the push button won't start the engine. but... if I do start the car with the key nearby, and then throw the key 10 feet away, the engine stays on and the car can be driven... is that correct?

just a random question because earlier today I started up my car... forgot something in my house and ran back in w/ the key, and when I came outside the car was still running. I wasn't 100% sure it would be because of the whole keyless ignition thing.

Yup you can still drive it. The display will just say "NO KEY"

Do you also know that you can start the car with the key on the top of the roof? Last time I forgot I put the key on top of the car and I started the car, which result I ran the key over. sigh

That sucks. You can start your car (as long as the key is nearby) and then leave without it. The car will continue to run without the key, but once you turn it off, you cannot start it again without the key. Neat feature, I guess, because I can go get the mail without turning off the engine.
