This month's C&D has a comparison of the G versus a BMW 328. Once again the editors chose the Bimmer by a very close margin of 2 points. Upon close examination of the scoring, the Bimmer won by some very subjective and bias scores. C&D indicated the 0-60 times at 5.5 seconds. Every other publication has the G doing much better than that. Maybe BMW has C&D on the payroll?

Consumer Reports, in their latest issue, rates the G 95/100 and the 328 a 78/100. Their rating is much more in line with reality and reflects the importance on reliability over prestige.

People who buy cars for prestige have self-image problems....or a-holes.

How many times have I seen a bmw parked in the firelane blocking traffic in front of the local grocery store!!! Have never seen a G parked there.

Try doing some research to try and determine how much in advertising $$$ C&D accepted from each.

Then you should be able to answer your own question.

Even Consumer Reports can be subjective but at least they are not influenced by advertising revenue.

0 to 60 time may be important to some but to others reliability, maintenance costs, and comfort are of greater importance.

Its not just you. Most people notice. I actually was a subscriber to Car and Driver for 2 years. They are Biased to BMW and Honda vehicles. They even admitted it before. I was with automobile magazine for 5 years. Really liked them. They dont seem to bias anyone. I've cursed out C&D for their biasing. I actually told them that if the Cobalt was delivered to their HQ in Honda Badging, it would win in a comparo vs a civic rebadged as a cobalt. Just because. They criticize little things negatively on certain cars, but when BMW or Honda does the same thing or slightly different, they dont criticize, but praise it. They'll say a bimmer or honda interior is cozy and comfy , but when someone else does it in the same class of car, its tight and restrictive, not spacious enough, etc. Read carefully. You'll notice it.

^+1. They (C&D) have been doing this for years. I remember reading them admitting to it also.

Motor trend is cool. They seem (to me) to be the most unbiased and fair people. As far as the GTR goes, that should have been a unanimous COTY worldwide. Its not just because i'm a nissan product fan, but because the achievements and undeniable appeal of the car was amazing, and still is, and will be for years to come.

I like Motortrend. My subscription expired and they keep sending me stuff to renew it...I just never seem to get around to it.

C&D sucks... biased reviews are not reviews at all.

I agree on your opinion of C&D, Motor Trend is OK, but Road and Track rules. I have been a subscriber for nearly 25 yrs and would'nt do without it. Peter Egan maybe the funniest writer in all of auto journalism. I find their reviews to be the fairest of all the car magazines I've sampled. Great articles and fantastic photagraphy!

You are correct. Still I find R&T to be far superior. Apparently the editorial staff operate independently of each other. Actually they are owned by the same media conglomerate Hachette.

I picked up that mag today and read through it..i think the most bs portion of the entire bmw post was it's performance....I6 with 200 hp doing 0-60 in 5.9....BS...200 hp can't get 3500lbs+including driver and fluids to 60 in under 6.5 seconds....

I mean hell an RSX type S with 205 hp and only weighing 2900lbs can't do it....so how is the bmw with 500lbs more able to do it??

Lies i tell you...maybe a 335 can get down in those numbers or lower...but the only way a 328 is getting acceleration like that is if it's a 128....

The straightline numbers for the BMW 328 were total BS. No way can a 220 hp car that weighs 3300 lbs go 0-60 in 5.9 or run a 14.3 second 1/4 mile. Did the writers check for a bottle of nitrous?

C&D's HQ is here in Ann Arbor, MI. It's a pretty wealthy town with Bimmers and better cars all around. Plus, some of the people here are kinda weird, but I love the town. On top of that, AA is known to be snobbish. So, does C&D fit that description? I think so.
